Walmart

Lol I often wondered if they can LEGALY ask to see your receipts

They can legally ask to see your underwear but you don't have to show it.

When they ask for my receipt, I just say, "No thanks" and keep walking.

I've been in retail for many years and I know how LP deals with a suspected shoplifter.

Good news is that if they falsely apprehend you, you can sue and they'll settle. One of my LP managers told me that some people fake shoplift and make an annual income in the six figures.

Not sure if every State is the same but in my loss prevention and law enforcement experience shoplifting applied when you passed the last point of a checkout and heading to the door.

My LPs have always said that "concealment" qualifies, such as stuffing things into a pocket or purse.

I've had that problem with telephone "support".

I'll tell y'all a secret. Oprima dos para Espanol. Your call is routed to California, Arizona, or Florida and you get someone who speaks idiomatic English. When they start talking in Spanish just say, "I'm sorry, I must have hit the wrong button. Can you help me?"

All customers having to show a receipt because some people shoplift sounds a bit like gun control. The majority has to suffer because of the actions of a few.

As for the business being discussed, I would only go there if sentenced by a court of competent jurisdiction.

Florida is one of the five states where you are legally required to show your receipt if asked. New York is also one of the five . . .

I'''m a lawyer - you'''re legally required to show your receipt in five states or they can call the police and arrest you | The US Sun

I live in NY. I LOVE WM. Their stuff is cheaper than other stores for certain items. That's why I buy those items there..

I take a bag with me because the little baskets are no longer available. I refuse to push a cart for stuff that simply fits in my single bag.

When I get to the self-checkout I take stuff out of my bag, scan it and put it back in the bag. As I walk out I have the receipt sticking out of my hand carrying the bag.

I have NEVER been asked about my purchase. The door "checker" smiles as I go out.

My local workers are all nice local people and any time I spoke to them they surely spoke English.

My son used to be the store manager at my local WM. He only moved on because he got a huge increase in pay and benefits at another venue. However, he always commented about how well his people were paid and they had good benefits, etc.

I rarely go to WalMart, usually because the hour is late and I need something right now.

My big complaints are that the express lanes aren't express, the self check out is slower than molasses, and they rarely have more than two registers open.

My oldest granddaughter(17) speaks passable American English and German, she has a fair grasp of Texan Spanish and knows enough Cantonese to get into trouble. Blond & Blue, she can really mess with you mind!

When they speak Spanish to me I always reply in my C student High School Spanish, I found they usually speak English much better than my Spanish!

I was in a Wal-Mart last Friday, Their Special Duty Loss Prevention Cops were 5 (that I saw) Columbus PD officers in body armor. I bought a new TV for the Mrs. and it had a RF security devise that needed removed. I noticed everybody was standing in line quietly and behaving (not always the norm in that store!) The "Greeter" wanted to see the receipt for the non-bagged TV. I'm 6' and fat, walk slow, and seem to draw attention from security, not because I fit some profile, but I stick out and it then proves they are not profiling! I have gotten used to it. I just wish they could be that dutiful at the ammo counter!

I own my own business and have had over $30,000 worth of things stolen from my construction sites in the last 6 months. I don't mind showing someone my receipt if it will help reduce stealing. As matter of fact I would love to see someone get caught and have the snot beaten out of them but that's not a very Christian way to think. It just gets to me financially and emotionally from happening so often nowadays.

Where I live, they don't bother stopping the shoplifters, never mind the poor shumks that actually pay their way.

We also had concealment laws.

The downside of waiting until the door exit is the runner. Many stores have moved away from chasing due to rising levels of violence.

Jim, I have pretty much the same experience at the Williamsville Walmart. The Lockport Walmart is newer and bigger but the clientele is definitely different. Entertaining if nothing else.

1. I shop walmart frequently.
2. I resent the move to self checkout. Saves WM money, not me, and makes me an uncompensated non-employee. I wouldn't mind it if I got a discount for checking and bagging my purchase.
3. I never give the employee grief for asking for my receipt. They are doing the bidding of WM corporate. I simply decline to show the receipt, tell them I have paid for everything in my possession, wish them a good day and go on my way. It's not their fault that WM corporate has chosen a business model that cuts employees and makes it easier for people to steal.

Walmart, love it or hate it. I avoid going into Walmart in person, order online and drive up and pickup. The few times I've been in the store in recent months there has been nobody at the door to welcome you or check receipts.
