.32 H&R coming back to the J frame - Ultimate Carry by Lipsey

Umm,OK...
But who said it has to be an aluminum or Scandium framed revolver? What's wrong with a steel frame?
A steel frame 640 weighs 22.4 ounces, 6 ounces or 40% heavier than the 16 ounces these guns weigh. Depending on how you carry that is a big difference. If you always carry IWB with a stiff belt you might not even notice. Those that pocket carry definitely would. If Lipseys is trying to appeal to the broadest possible group of shooters the lighter gun was the right choice.

Yup, as much as I'd love a return of the 632 Pro, this will likely sell way better.

So, is this the right thread to speculate on the K-frame versions? Are they going to be steel frame or aluminum?

A whole lot of S&W Ultimate carry J Frame videos are popping up today ! I'd say they got to the industry " influencer's " last week. Maybe they will be in the pipeline by this weekend?!

An LGS was tagging a gray one in .38. I can legitimately feel an improvement in the trigger over my prior 442 experiences. Sights are great, and that Hogue is the cat's meow. Love the covered backstrap, extra reach to the trigger, and a bit more palm-filling feel to them, overall. Oh, they put it out at $649

Glad to hear it! And those grips are made by VZ Grips.

Great to hear. Hope to see 432 real soon.

I got to the shop early today to find two UCs waiting for me in the safe. One was a 442-UC and the other a 642-UC. The 442-UC had been promised to a very regular customer who, besides being a former ‘70/‘80 real deal Army Ranger is a very accomplished tactical pistol instructor/ shooter, had prior to the announcement of these pistols was looking to grab a PERFORMANCE CENTER PRO SERIES 442 w/ MOON CLIP.
He held out for a bit and grabbed the 442-UC this afternoon. He was thrilled. We found the VZ grips hand filling (we both have M/ML hands and extremely comfortable. Certainly more comfortable in my hands compared to the current VZ J Frame grips which are much thinner all around. The pistol pointed very straight with the XS high visibility sights coming right on target. Trigger on the 442-UC was smooth and consistent and felt a lot like my 342Ti with an Apex kit, but maybe a bit lighter(?). Fit and finish was excellent and he (and I) were very much impressed.
I did mention that a 642-UC had also come in, right? That one’s going to be mine- but the gun shop was so incredibly busy today that I was lucky enough to just snap some iPhone pictures. I go hands on maybe tomorrow afternoon if I can, otherwise next week.
I did not remove any grips but I doubt the butt is cut and contoured for the lanyard pin. My 642-UC has a stainless cylinder release and that doesn’t bother me a bit.
I’m told that the 432-UC and the 632-UC will be following soon.

I’m not sure why the pics flipped, hopefully a Mod can make them right…

Thanks for the first impressions. And also for asking on the 432's.

I got a chance to handle a 642 at my LGS today and I really like that grip, feels great in my hand. I hope VZ Grips makes them available for general consumers and not just some unobtanium 1 off grip. I'd be curious if it would be compatible with my humpback or exposed hammer j frames.

Friends,

Lipsey's did an event for gun writers a couple weeks ago. They fired a BUNCH of rounds. I sent down 900 rounds of 100 grain Poly Coated .32 H&R wadcutters. (For those who may not know, I own Lost River Ammunition Company).

The ones of the right:

Jason (the VP) from Lipsey's advised that in the literally thousands of rounds fired, they had ZERO malfunctions or issues of any kind. You would almost expect something. A screw backing out, grip coming loose, some little hiccup. But they had zero issues. It was a testament to how well the guns were put together.

The 100 grain .32 cal poly-coated wadcutters were designed specifically to shoot to the sights for the guns, and they shoot to the sights on Ruger LCRs as well BTW.

I was advised from a couple different people who were there that the load penetrated between 22" and 24" of gel. Velocity from the S&W was right at 800 FPS.

Recoil (this is subjective and this is just my observation) is about like shooting a .22 Magnum.

Bottom line is that although I already own a Ruger LCR in .32 (.327 Mag actually), I ordered one of the Lipsey's S&W 432 Ultimate Carry J Frames for myself.

I have been carrying a 442 for almost 25 years in my pocket at it has more than 6K rounds through it.

I figured I was due for this.

In fact I was out shooting a different gun yesterday, and finished up with 12 rounds of 100 grain Poly Coated Wadcutters from the LCR.

The light recoil just makes shooting pocket guns a whole lot more enjoyable.

Post 197,
I'm only on a waiting (aka wish list) for a 432UC with one of my local FFLs.
From what I've been reading so far, I haven't heard of the 432UC/632UC being received by anybody as yet.

I'm already thinking if I don't get one soon or out of the initial batch, I'm likely to just forget the idea as my ~$800 gets spent and used on other things pretty quickly around my house, even if it's just ammo for all my other guns or a home or car repair.

Post 198,
Thanks for reminding me and I'll go to your website next to see if there's any ammo I want.:)

I am hoping lock equipped version will be released for these.

Not a fan of deleting safety features. Those with little ones will understand.

Actually, I do not understand, and I have had little ones long ago. Offhand, I don't know anyone who uses the IL and, while the IL doesn't bother me much, I have no idea where the keys are to my IL equipped revolvers. If I keep them around for home defense I sure would never use the lock and the ones that are not around for home defense are locked away so the IL is irrelevant. If you have little ones around you simply cannot keep guns lying around the house in any case; it's irresponsible.

The IL is a so-called safety feature answering a question that nobody asked.

If S&W eventually makes a plain jane version, and a steel frame exposed hammer version, I might be interested.

Interesting! I like that because my EDC is a M649; I won't carry a lightweight revolver, there isn't enough weight difference in my pocket to make it worthwhile, and the difference in recoil is sufficient to justify a few extra ounces.

I do like the 6-shot .32 caliber concept for my girlfriend; it might be the perfect answer for her instead of a hard-to-rack 9mm with recoil that she might dislike. We have yet to try her on my various guns but I'm betting that a .32 caliber revolver is the ticket for her.
