A gun show friend, who is the sheriff of a North Georgia county, brought a 6" full under lug 44 Mag to me Sunday. Frame, barrel, cylinder assembly, side plate (no screws) and forward lock up (in front of ejector rod, and nothing else. Someone told him I had a lot of parts so he asked me if I could get it back to being a functioning gun. I told him I could get it close. The only thing I don't have is the cylinder bolt and plunger/spring, rear sight and grip pin (bottom of grip frame).

He doesn't care what it looks like as long as it shoots. Well, my strain screw and round head side plate screws are nickel, thumb latch and flat head plate screw are blue. It's about put together so I can check the timing. I'll have to take the hammer out to open the cylinder, but that's no big deal. Oh yea, I had the new style front plate/yoke screw but it's blue as well. Some kinda' weird pinto!!

I guess I'll get back to work. If anyone has a N frame cylinder bolt with plunger and spring to donate or sell, let me know. Grip pin. The rear sight is going to cost him. All I have are K frames.

I forgot to mention, it has an unfluted cylinder. Not sure what they call it.

I believe thats a Classic Hunter. There are a lot of those bits you need on eBay.

I think this version is the one they call the "MAGNUM Hunter".
The CLASSIC Hunter is a blued gun with the non-fluted cylinder a full underlug barrel, and a 4-step front sight specifically designed for silhouette shooting matches. It was a Lew Horton exclusive version of the 29-3, not a 629 variant.

Here's a picture of the Classic Hunter I was lucky enough to find in one of our local pawn shops a few years ago...

I’m no expert that’s for sure but I have heard the 629 influted full underlug models called “classic hunters” but it can be confusing. Maybe it’s the magnum classic hunter? Yea Magnum Hunter does sound right. Cool guns for sure.

I recently acquired a 629-1 4” that might look interesting with a nonfluted cyl. Kind of a half-magnum hunter sorta sideways.
