617 Sideplate Screws

I buggered up the sideplate screw that retains the yoke on my 617. Whats the official name of it and where can I get a replacement? While I am at it, does anyone know the correct size screwdriver tip to remove it since I obviously dont have it. 1 is too wide and the next smaller is too narrow. Aaaarrrgh

You don't mention the dash number of your 617.....does it have the smaller screw fit to the yoke button, or the larger spring loaded detent screw variation?

The part number on the newer revision screw with the spring and plunger is 21986.

If it's the older fitted screw, the part number is 07012.

If I remember correctly & someone will correct me if I'm wrong, that is a fitted piece for length. It is not just a drop in part.

Smith and Wesson will have the "newer" yoke revision screws in stock. You could give them a call. They would probably send you one free, if you explain the circumstances. No fitting required on this screw.

1-800-331-0852 ask for the parts department, and have your serial number handy. They will need your model and serial number.

On another note, since ,the original screw is stainless, it would not take much to dress the screw head with a file, and then polish it to match the finish on the gun.

The screw slot can be cleaned up with a fine file. Stay with the contour of the head, and smooth the entire head with the file. You usually don't have to take off too much to clean it up. I've done several. When you buy lots of used S&W's you get these. I've only had to actually replace one screw that was too badly damaged.
