I just caught a bit of this on the radio this AM so I might have got it wrong. The piece said that the feds just passed a requirement on credit card companies to require them to report and track gun sales. I don't know if this was statutory or administrative. I am curious about this. Anybody else hear this? I get the feeling this might be an attempt to side-door a registration program which is not legally permitted (but probably done anyway) with the 4473 forms. Am I paranoid?

Who in the Fed is the question? I don't recall any bill in Congress. Another excellent example of why we needed the Chevron ruling.

I don't know about any executive order or regulatory agency issuing a requirement, but several of the big banks that issue credit cards created a special code that retailers are to use when firearms or ammunition are purchased. This started about 3 years ago.

cash is king, use it when ever possible. Forget about the 1% cash back ect offered by CC. Big brother wants to know how many times you buy toilet paper and the CC transaction will let them know. Big brother wants to take cash away so they can keep a close eye on us mortals.
we all should be paranoid...

Just got more info. It is a CA requirement, statutory. It does require that the credit card companies supply a code that CAN be used to flag and track gun sales. It does NOT require that the merchants use it.

Yeah, just like the State of NY didn't require insurance companies to quit dealing with the NRA.
