Hey folks, looking for some info. I’ve stumbled on a 66-4 F-Comp. It’s is scroll engraved and says “Tactical Edition” on the barrel. It is also numbered as “23 of 50.” No lock, Pachmayr grips.

I’ve read the Catalog details on the Lou Horton F Comps, but there is no mention of any engraved series.

No box or paperwork, just the revolver, but it’s in great shape.

Any insights on what this might be? It’s serial number starts with CPC…

I’ve already suggested that the owner letter it. Just seeing what the crowd might know.

I’ve checked on a few sites and I’ve seen no lock F Comps for sale - fairly high asking prices. For those who know about such things, does the engraving just look like personal embellishment? The fact that it’s numbered “out of 50” sort of implies there are more.

Interesting, but I prefer my F comps without the scratches. It’s like wearing a tuxedo into combat.

I agree, it’s a bit gaudy for my tastes too. But, for the owner, it’s a “family piece” but not much is known about it. I was trying to see what I could find out about it.

I have found some references to an American Historical Foundation edition, but I guess it’s old enough that there is not much on line about it.

The no lock F Comps do seem to have a following.

You are correct. There were 224 CPC prefix 66-4 F-comps made for Lew Horton in 1994 and then 50 were sent to and engraved by the American Historical Foundation and sold with a Starlight case and accessories.

Big thanks, that’s the kind of insight I was looking for. I’m still going to suggest they get a letter on it. Not sure the engraving adds much to value (as they do not have any of the accessories) but it’s not for sale anyway.

I wonder if the AHF would provide them any insights if they contacted them?

The engraving looks tasteful, so I think to the right person it would be worth more than a standard F Comp.

It's interesting how much the term "tactical" has evolved in the last thirty years since this was made. Now it would have to be flat black, with a light rail, optic, laser and a "Punisher" logo on the side. :)
