Some sky shots....
In scanning slides/negs I got a few pics of some star shots I made with my patented ACME Star Tracker. that I made for Machine Design class.
Sagittarius - In the southern sky, near Scorpio. It's called the 'teapot'
Ursa Major, Big Dipper - In the northern sky. You can see that the middle star in the handle, Mizar/Alcor, is a binary (double) star. Interestingly enough, the binary system Mizar A and B are both binary systems. Later, it was discovered that Alcor is also a binary system, making it a 6-star system. I have resolved it through a telescope to a pair of binaries (4 stars), but I don't have notes and don't think I got any farther than that.
Comet Hale-Bopp. This is the one that 'Heaven's Gate' was going to catch on their way to a new universe. I may have posted one of these, but this shot has some nice stars in the background.
Scorpio - In the southern sky. The 'head' is in the upper right. The big star behind the head is Antares. The two stars that form the stinger are in the lower left quadrant.
Pole Sky Tracks - Northern sky (of course)Taken WITHOUT my ACME star tracker so it shows the rotation of the earth with Polaris the pole star sitting still (the dot on the right) while the stars seem to 'revolve' around it.
