I believe 45 is getting the protection allowed by law and extended to all former presidents. If citizens prefer he or anyone else receive greater protection let those people start a "Go Fund Me" account and solicit donations to provide for extra coverage. Tax dollars can be spent more wisely.

The investigation is AFTER the attempt. The Secret Service is responsible for threats before, and protection before and during, attempts.

I consider myself an excellent rifleman. I couldn't hit a CAR with an AK-47, standing, at 300-500 yards.
Sounds like he fired shots in the general direction of Trump. Yes, it's possible one could have hit him, but it is a lame attempt. Which is good.
Then there is the ballistics of the 7.62 X 39. It could be lethal at >300 yds, but likely not.
Overall, a strange action. Risking life for very little chance of actually hurting Trump. More theater than actual assassination attempt?

Yes, you are stating facts which don't really have any relevance to my post. Let's see the gov of Florida get cooperation in his investigation with the current fbi at the helm of the investigation.
He will be, as I'm afraid the American people will be, stonewalled at every corner. They have a track record of not being forthcoming, nor in any way "cooperative". That all begins with the hierarchy at the doj.
I think I read that the SS sends a guy ahead to the next hole when the former prez is playing golf. I think the 300 to 500 yards is where Trump was when the SS advance guy at the next hole saw the rifle bbl protruding through the fence and opened up. Further seems to me that I read that if the advance guy had not seen and engaged the would be assassin, the former prez might have passed within a 100 yards of him, making a successful attempt on his life a lot more likely.

Should have Still Been In Jail, very simple solution to most crime these days. Built huge plain old prisons, throw these types in and throw away the key. Build new and huge mental institutions and put those that are " off" in and lock the doors. Society has been and is/ has been ruined by both criminals and the mentally challenged. Honest law abiding citizens Constitutional rights should not be restricted because of the complete failure to control crime and the mentally ill.

My understanding is that the SS fired on him and chased him off before he fired any rounds.
We only know what we're told. Then, consider the source(s)...
I couldn't help but notice that his social media has been scrubbed.
On X.com, there's all kinds of video of numb-nuts and posts he made that have been dug up. Just from seeing that stuff, it's pretty clear what his motive's are. But of course, the media/.gov will say "no known motive".
