Just picked up this 686-1 2 1/2 inch barrel for 1 grand even. Box and all. .003 end shake. Tight lock up. Straight extraction rod. No yoke play. Screws in good condition. One grip has a light crack at the edge. How did I do? Oh and original purchase papers and warranty.

I was looking at Smith's web site just last night to see what revolvers are still listed as being available. I was quite surprised, to be honest.

The 2-1/2" 686 is in fact one of those still listed. I want one, just because. :D

Well done, I had been watching that one just out of curiosity. Congrats!

I told the gentlemen I think he undersold it lol. He didn't say the box was complete. Also pictures didn't do the gun justice!

I think you did well on that snubby 686-1 with the box and goodies! The pre-lock guns are always more desirable, and yours looks to be in great condition. I did pretty good a couple of weeks ago when I was able to pick up this minty 3" 686-6+ (2015) from a gun store...no box, but 4 sets of stocks and it's a 7-shooter. After some dickering I took it home for $750 OTD. Enjoy!

Thank you and yea you did good yourself 3 sets is good to go. I love the feel of my 686 plus 3 inch barrel! That's my dresser gun! It's what made me look for this pre lock!

Make no mistake, there are few similarities between the current offering and the one in original post.

That's a real beauty! I have said this many times, I think that the 66 pre-lock with 2 1/2 inch bbl is the most handsome revolver ever made, specially with the wood combat grips, and yours is a perfect example.

I love the 2.5" 686, great gun! I just picked up a 2.5" 6 shot for 699.00 from Bud's. Its a close out price. Great shooter, the lock is not a big concern for me.
