China has cut off Nitrocellulose and Antimony to the U.S.

Everything will be fine.
It always has been and with a few ups and downs it always will be.
Don't panic.

This is a bit different. China has never cut off our ingredients for ammo. It'll take years to get the one plant shut down in the early 2000's started back up to replacing Chinas 63%. With WW3 looming, things aren't like they were in the past.

Good thing I stocked up on the last bit of ammo I really needed just recently...

It's funny, I kept having this nagging feeling that I should do so sooner rather than later, so ultimately I caved in an ordered some bulk 5.56 M193. Good thing I did, because as if folks weren't already going to start hoarding ammo before the election, this will drive it over the edge.

I just bought a few boxes of calibers that I didn't have since I just recently picked up a 45 Colt. I stocked up after the last shortages we had. We've had shortages before but not having the ingredients we need is going to cause the military to get first choice and civilians might get what's left.

I'm 75 this year, so I can predict my future needs. I have been a computer geek since College, so my data and spreadsheets show how much I need for each year and how long my supplies will last.

If I die early my heirs will have a windfall. If I die late, sucks to be me because I won't be able to shoot any more.

Anywhoot.....
Boolits have not been a problem for 20 years. When WWs were starting to be converted to zinc I bought a ton (literally a TON) and rock bottom prices. It took a couple years to melt and convert to ingots, but I truly have a lifetime supply.

Brass is a no-brainer. Mine usually last for many many reloads, so another lifetime.

Primers have been an issue. But recently the availability has been good and even though I cringe at the price, it is what it is. Recent purchases meet my spreadsheet requirements.

Powder....humm. I read about the NC China issue recently. About the same time my preferred supplier had acceptable powder choices in stock. Some times free shipping and sometimes zero hazmat charge. Stocked up. My spreadsheet is now happy.

I DID have to stop buying beer for 2 months, but my SS check finally caught up.

It is what it is. Like the girl scouts say: "Be prepared". If you don't prepare, don't complain. If you can't afford it, I am truly sorry. If it comes to that for me I'll get my old bowling ball out of the closet.

If it looks like we may get in a shooting scrape...EPA and other agencies will be silenced by the powers that be...meaning higher ranked bureaucrats. And time will be of the essence. Might even make some idle people go to work for the first time of their lives

I think we do to much business with China, India, Russia, Ukraine and others.

But the 1%ers are getting rich and richer.

Explain how Obama has FOUR mansions on a govt salary? One in Hawaii, one in Chicago, one in Martha's Vineyard (with the mysterious death of the chef) & one in NYC.

I could care less about the 1%. It's the crooked, lying pols I care about, of either party.

Good idea from China! Bring production of these critical components back to the US!

...And a lot of other stuff. Put our people back to work and quit sending money to China to finance their military ambitions. A lot of our military equipment is made with parts from China. Do you think maybe they might contain a bot or two? We need more tariffs on Chinese products and tax penalties on US companies that have factories in China and other countries who don't like us. It may cost a little more, but bring our manufacturing home and build our middle class back to where it should be. I do everything I can to keep from buying anything made in China. We are endangering our country by doing so. Another problem is China buying farm property and processing (think Smithfield) in our country while we can't buy even one acre there. This needs to be stopped right now.

Buy gold and silver, the original currency of the world.
Stocks, bonds and all fiat currency will just be junk.

China already did that. Remember when scrap metal prices went sky high a few years ago? It was because China was buying everything they could get. Boatloads of our scrap metals went to them where they were picked apart and sorted by prisoners and peons until China now has the largest stockpile of critical metals in the world. The prices went back down after China got what they wanted to supply their military and industrial complex. They now have enough of various metals to keep them going for decades while our government was more than happy to help.

As I understand it, there is currently only one USA producer of NC, which is the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Virginia. And all of their production is for military use. Radford produces mainly large caliber propellants and rocket propellant and also supplies NC to St. Marks in Florida. That is where small caliber military propellant is made. Also, all TNT production is at Radford. Most all powder for other uses comes in from foreign sources. When I worked at Hercules many years ago, I was a frequent visitor to Radford, as Hercules was then the operator.

The largest single propellant plant was the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, across the river from Louisville. They made everything from rifle powder to 16" powder for the Navy. It was shut down and largely dismantled after the Vietnam War. During WWII, at its peak it was making a million pounds of propellants PER DAY on six parallel production lines. I was in charge of the environmental cleanup project there about 15 years ago.

My Dad was a chemical engineer for Hercules and made rocket powder in Lawrence, Kansas during WWII. My older brother was born there. After the War was over he came home to Hercules Powder Co., later named Hercules Inc. in Hattiesburg, Ms. where he retired in 1977 after 38 years with the company. The only thing left of that company in Hattiesburg is two large smokestacks which will be imploded at some time in the future. I once had a S&W Victory model that lettered to Hercules Powder in WWII. It didn't have the US Property markings on the top strap. I was stupid for getting rid of that one. I will probably see you in Louisville next Spring.

Jack up tarriffs on everything Chinese. The world needs to incrementally reduce its dependency on Chinese goods, until its zero.

It all sounds great, but it only works if there are comparable products to choose in their place. If not, import tariffs amount to a tax on the American consumer. And since we don't manufacture much of anything these days...

Rocket Powder, huh??

Does anybody make load data for that?:D

Just to keep with the spirit of the thread, maybe Uncle Sam will give some incentive for US companies to start producing again. I'll sell him some of mine.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, a huge contract was just awarded to rebuild the air base they dropped the atomic bombs from on Tinian. They are also building a new Marine base on Guam. Hold on to your hats gentlemen, WW III is just around the corner. Not sure what we'll fight it with without gun powder materials, but time will tell.

Tried buying a toaster lately? Coffee maker? Or any of a host of other items? Almost impossible to avoid chinese products these days.

Of course when China is paying the POTUS' son millions of $$$ a year, that should come as no surprise.

try finding an American Flag made in America!

That's what happens when a country pays a VP's & POTUS' son millions of $$$ over a stretch of years. It's been documented & publicized, it's not like I'm making it up. 10% for The Big Guy was the norm during all that time.:mad::mad:

This is what happens when you let China take over the manufacture of vital strategic goods. We are vying to become the most stupid nation ever on the face of the earth.

People need to stop voting for professional politicians! Elect businessmen & women, people who have been in charge of a payroll!

I'm surprised it took the Chinese so long to do this.

Mao wouldn't let them, for starters. Nor would the next several successors. It was only after the fall of the Soviet Union & subsequent break-up that China realized they would be next if they didn't change.

And the rest is history.....................

Unfortunately, our country is dependent on too many other countries for our vital supplies, and some are not friendly to us and in fact some, like China, are our adversaries. This is done all for the sake of increased profit.
What could possibly go wrong?
