2015 Z51 Corvette

How did you do that? Seems to screw up the pics every time I post one.

I saved and edited your photo on my computer.

Then I made my post and added that photo as an attachment.

Post the new response to the thread.

Then click on the photo attachment at the bottom.

Copy the url at the top of the photo on the new screen.

Edit the response and paste the photo’s url in the post but type…

Then save.

My wife's car is her favorite of all time, she can have anything she wants and she is bound and determined to drive the little Camry Hybrid into the ground. It has its share of parking lot dings and dents, a few places where I pulled the damage out and filled the holes with plastic plugs, those things. I asked our friendly Toyota dealer what a professional detail would entail and he told me the crew that work on their used cars charges $500 and does not do any painting other than a light scratch or chip that can be filled with touch up paint and buffed out. I think were looking at a lot of oxidation or sun damage, detailers can work wonders including bringing your top back but if you have serious sun damage it will require a respray, at your brother's family discount price I think you'd be OK even with a complete respray, be prepared everything has gone up. I bought a pint of paint over fifteen years ago and it set me back $200.

You might want to check with a few local painters as to what they charge for prepping and spraying a Corvette. I suspect you'll be shocked at the cost.
Yeah, I'm figuring minimum $10k just for a good paint job and another $5k for a replacement top. Spoke to my brother and he's wacked in the head and wants like $40k as is.
Bawhahahahaha, told em good luck and broke it down for him, if it were in perfect condition it'd only be worth maybe $40k?
Given the condition and possible necessities, $25k would be a fair price.
I really want the C8 more anyways, so that's probably the route I'll wind up going; they're drastically dropping in value each year and I never buy new.

Now MACCO has cornered that market, bottom line is my brother wants to sit and watch it rot because it's his, sorta like a baby in a warm, poopie diaper refusing to let you change it.
Oh well. lol

I know you said it was meticulously maintained but seeing it sitting outside with serious mold on the top and sunk into the soil screams otherwise.

HARD pass even though it's family. Good Luck.

A buddy of mine when I was a kid worked at Shiebs back in the 60's. He owned a '57 Chevy and would paint it a different color almost like changing shirts, he must have painted it three or four times in the short period I knew him. He would sand it down, hit it with a primer and respray. One day he had a light change on him so quick that when he slammed on the brakes to avoid running the light he left a perfect imprint of a '57 Chevy in the intersection.

You obviously didn't read my original post, go back and read it or read it again.

I agree with the "have it detailed" it's always hard to see through a picture and Vettes are notorious for not keeping paint well but things have changed and if you're told that paint can't be saved, you just haven't found the right guy yet... you'll be out a few bucks but its would give you a much better idea how bad the paint is from they're advise ... worse case have it detailed and if you don't help your brother out in selling it to someone else

Or ... offer him 10k and see how much he really loves ya!
Not my colors but that is a desirable color combo

Yeah, I agree, but we're too far apart on value. He's convinced it's worth $40k as is so it'll just sit there and rot, bottom line is I think he just doesn't wanna sell it.I want a C8 more anyways and they're dropping like a rock now coming into a few years old.

For reference…

…03hemi, I sold my 2015 Corvette convertible for $50K in summer, 2021.

It was in “perfect” condition with Z51, mag ride, 3LT, and just about every available option.

You are correct; that Corvette is worth nowhere near $40K.

Keep looking, you’ll find a good one.

Be safe.

Unless those stains, discoloration by the convertible top, are hard water stains, I think the paint is done.

If the the hood has paint issues, it's probably checking and/or crazing due to heat cycling. It's done.

Wash the car and look at the paint, if it's water stains it shouldn't be too tough get them out - unless they etched the paint.

Take it to a reputable detailer and see what they say.

BTW that leather looks dry.

I wouldn’t replace the top. Tell people it’s custom Ostrich. Then get boots to match

I actually did read the entire initial post before my reply; was meticulously maintained, brother had a stroke and couldn't keep it up, now the exterior is in bad need of attention or respray.

You post pics of it dust and dirt covered asking what others think about whether or not the clear coat is savable. Sounds like you have experience with wet sanding, compounds and polishing, why not pic a panel and start gently to see where it goes.

As stated prior full resprays done right are stupid expensive, most body shops prefer hanging a fender and gigging the insurance company which leaves you with restoration shops.

Understand the family connection but unless the price is $20k under current market you will be overpaying if it indeed needs a respray.

Edit: Reread it and the part where you stated "Your thoughts on bringing it back, is the clear too far gone, no peeling just the hazing you see. That's not dust or dirt, it's faded clear on the hood."

Were the pics taken after washing it? The dirt or mold on the front and top glass makes it appear unwashed. If so that paint is smoked. Hard Pass.

Yeah, that's where I am, my brother seems to think it's worth way more than it is, $15-20k max is about what I thought too.
Thanks for your feedback also.
