At some point the market has to become saturated. People are pinching their pennies anticipating an economic downturn.
I sure would be happy to see the reduced sales volume result in lower pricing... What happens with the local shops are when the panic buying stops, is that they raise prices chasing the same profits they had before. It is a interesting economic study.

Agree. There is a bottom to the well. If you have a job keep it and save all you can. Cut back. Leave the cc's alone. Play with the toys you already have.

Unless you live in a gun-free zone like NY/CT/MA/Etc., if you already have the guns that you want/need there is no pressure from DC that will push you to increase your herd. Eminently sensible.
I'm not so sure of economic uncertainty but everyone likes that for all sorts of reasons.

I suspect there's a demographic aspect, too. Some of us Boomers a) have the guns we want; 2) spend our free time shooting what we already have; c) have tastes that do not run to acquiring one of every variation of plastic fantastic or black rifle to hit the market (and with a few notable exceptions, that is the new gun market). At some point you run out of "new and improved" territory (18 rounds is so last year - gotta have the 2.0 that holds 19 - not), and trying to make 130 year old designs "tactical" by painting them black and adding a light rail wore out fast. Now a phaser or plasma rifle might appeal to my inner Tom Swift, but stuff like the article's illustration - meh. (Curmudgeon mode off)

I can assure you that economic uncertainty is alive and well in this state. It must be bad because the local Las Vegas media have said so out loud on TV, something the casino industry doesn't normally allow, but the cat's out of the bag now. Year on year tourism is down 7% and job growth in the hospitality industry is 0.1%. I don't think I've seen the pundits here so worried, not even after 9/11 and the banking crisis.

The industry has been driven by an almost manic frenzy of buying for too long, mostly on the part of new owners devouring large quantities of plastic 9mm pistols and AR-15s.
It is not healthy for the industry.
The needs of term gun owners and serious shooters have been largely been ignored.
One niche that has seriously suffered is handloading components.
Maybe we will see the prices, not to mention availability, of primers and powder improve.
And, better yet, maybe we'll see less yahoos at the range, arriving with their shopping bags of newly purchased toys, as they terrorize sensible folks with their reckless and unsafe gun handling!

My local shop says sales are down 25% yoy. It is totally a buyers market and there are deals to be had. Previous years were driven by first time gun buyers and now they have their Gun.

Republican Congress and a "Republican " administration. Folks are feeling less threatened and more comfortable about 2A rights at the federal level…therefore, less panic buying…….maybe, somewhat?? IDK, maybe it's a moon phase…….

I want a small hand phaser, phaser with the handle for more fire and stopping power along with a phaser rifle. I need all three for any occasion that might arise.
