Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone could give me the break down between the changes between the no dash, -1 and -2 versions of the 952.

In addition, is the -2 the least collectible of the bunch?

I have a chance to pick one up but does not include a box. What should one expect to pay on an example like this and does the box detract from its collectibility ( $ appreciation) in the future?

Thanks in advance for any info.

The no-dash was a very limited model, its been argued either 200 or 400 were made.

The dash-1 was made in two different “looks.” The earlier dash-1 which was made in the highest volume looks exactly like the 952 no-dash. The later dash-1 has a more subdued look without the large “952” billboard on it. Functionally, it is the same. It would likely be argued that the billboard 952-1 is “least collectible” but all of them are highly collectible.

The 952-2 was stainless and looks different, slide co tour is different, many of us would say it’s the most visually attractive of the four basic 952’s.

The 952-2’s were some of the last guns produced by the REAL Performance Center and the very last of them had a PC marked zippered soft case but no box. The earlier pistols came in a royally overrated cheap aluminum-sided foam filled case with cheap parts, cheap latches and it will show dings and dents if it has ever been used in any manner but folks will murder each other for the chance to pay $200+ to get one and if you can’t tell, I find this pretty annoying. :D

If the price is right, no 952 ever is a bad purchase because of any missing box or case.

“What should you expect to pay”, well we’d need a lot more info than what you’ve offered. I would expect to see it priced no less than $2,000 if it’s high condition.

OOPS, cannot believe I forgot…

The no-dash 952 did not have a grip safety. The 952-1 and 952-2 both have it. The grip safety on these works differently than a 1911… where the 1911 grip safety blocks sear/trigger movement, the 952-1/952-2 grip safety defeats the firing pin lock.

Another difference I noticed between the 952 no dash and the later variations......the backstrap on the no dash has a matte finish instead of a high gloss. The predecessor 52-2's that I have are also high gloss .

Do you have a 952 no-dash? That’s a rare grab!
Yes sir, #7 of the run! The 952-2 was my first PC gun and the one that started me down the dark path! I now have 4 - 5" 952s total. Still need to acquire a billboard -1 and the 6" long slide variations to complete that set. While I'm a big 945 fan as well, the 952s would be the very last guns in my collection to be sold, if I were to liquidate it.

That’s fantastic!!!

I just hope you are not a crazy “COMPLETIST” because there are a couple damn difficult 952 variants you would want to find but it might kill ya trying to locate and/or fund them.

The 6-long slide in particular was made in two different versions… one of them is a “heavy slide” and those guns are hard to find.

Then there is the two-tone gun, it makes my eyeballs pop out of my skull on stalks. I would have to sell 4 or 5 PC guns to buy one -if- someone were selling it.

I will be following up on this thread on Thursday. I did score a 952-2 for $1900 and will be picking it up shortly.
And btw, I love all 6 of my 52s!!

Six of ‘em, hell yeah!

I always laugh on range days when a 52 comes along with me because I bring ten magazines in a little case. At today’s ridiculous market prices, that’s like a $1,500 little case and there is no handgun in that case, it’s just a pack of magazines.

Now I don’t feel so odd. Thanks!

Crazy completist- no, mild case of OCD- definitely! Luckily, my champagne tastes are tempered by a beer budget. Over the years I've readjusted my collecting focus, narrowing it to allow my limited expendable budget to be used to acquire some of the rarer and/or more collectable examples. I was big into SIGs,1911s, and Marlins at one point, but I've sold most of those off to concentrate and fund my PC obsession!

Guy at my show has one or two. I can’t deal with those. I’d want to use them. I think he wants $200 or $250 for it. His estate will sell it because nobody at the show is gonna get suckered in to that.

I do have one or two 3906 mags on a card. I cannot recall but maybe one or both (or neither haha) is the super early 8-round variant. I don’t need to open and use them as I am flush in 3906/952 9-rounders, so those get to stay on the card.

I hear you Sevens . It's hard enough for people to get off $150 for a used one , much less what people would want for a nip one . I also have 2 645's , 2 10mm's , shorty 40 , 639 , CS40 , 4013 and a 12rd 41/422 .See what you started all those years ago .
