My collection may not be anything like a lot of you guys have, but they are all very well loved by me. :) I just added a Model 19 Classic for Christmas. The 686+ is from 2004. And the others are a Model 66 and a Model 617. I want a Model 27 next, and plan to start getting into some vintage Smith & Wessons. But in California they have to be 50 years old or older to get shipped to an FFL since they are not on our lame approved for sale in California roster.

Very nice Fan. Please remember, that nobody here accumulated their collection overnight. Some of us took as long as a week.:D

There are lots of nice vintage guns out there, wait for the right one. The WTB ( want to buy ) section of this forum is a GREAT place to find a nice m27 and others. Go slow, and accumulate quality older pieces is my suggestion. I have 2 beautiful 27's that came from this forum. Be careful on auction sites

Do you use Calguns at all? A lot of my accumulation has been acquired from the classifieds there. If you check it frequently there are a lot of under-valued vintage Smith’s along with other brands. But it’s an early bird gets the worm situation. The good stuff doesn’t last long.

Thanks for the information. I will check them out.

Or go really fast and have lots of different S&W’s to choose from.

Nice pieces! A good start. One piece of advice: It's your collection. Buy what you like, for your own reasons. There are no "must haves" to be a S&W collector. There are many of us, and we are all different. Our collections reflect that. Enjoy the hunt!:)
Everything I have was a "must have" for me at the time I bought it. I started with the 66 and then added a 686+. After that I bought the 10 shot 22LR Model 617 in June. And I have been wanting the blued Model 19 Classic and just got it for Christmas.

I do plan to get into vintage Smith & Wesson's, but in California that is tougher. I recently bid on a Model 66 from 1976 on Gunbroker and could not have it shipped to an FFL because it was not 50 years old. And my FFL's charge a hundred dollars in addition to all of the taxes, fees and shipping charges for handing any online firearm purchase shipped to them.

My dad has plenty of very collectable firearms that I will inherit someday. But I pray and hope that is a million years from now. As for today though, I now own four fantastic Smith & Wesson revolvers that will all last a lifetime. I did send the 617 back for warranty work. It works perfectly now and shoots great. The others are and have been problem free. Smith & Wesson's new stuff gets a bad rap in my opinion. One of the reasons I bought my new Model 19 Classic was due to this video here.

Wow, that got me to thinking, 4 of mine are now C&R; M57, M58, M19-3 and M28-2.
My dad's stuff is that era too. He is in his 80's and bought some very collectible beauties back in the day. They still look pretty much brand spanking new. He takes great care of his stuff. His 19-3 has the three T's and a nickel finish. Not a mark on it and maybe 500 hundred rounds have been shot through it. I think it was made in 1972.
