Noticed a small ding on the crown of the barrel on brand new bodyguard 2.0. Noticed it went gun was stripped to clean it. Wouldn’t have saw it at gun store as it would have required looking down the barrel of a gun. It’s on the outer edge of barrel .. not on the lands and grooves, but my original bodyguard, my shield 45 and my glocks and sigs have clean barrel crowns. I think the actual crown itself is recessed, hard to tell as the barrel is so thin. The ding is under the black finish so the barrel had the defect before S&W coated barrel. Zero rounds, just picked up gun .. ugh I hate having to deal with customer service and I’m sure I could shoot the gun and not notice issue but my OCD is driving me crazy. Does S&W require you to send back the whole gun to get a replacement barrel under warranty?

I don’t believe you have to be OCD to purchase a handgun manufactured by a legendary firearm company, listed at $449.00, designed and marketed as a self-defense pocket carry pistol, to expect it to be free from blatantly obvious quality control and failed design issues.

What I know about manufacturing a firearm wouldn’t make a pimple on an elephant’s butt. However, I do know a little about the laws of physics and mechanical engineering.

A “ding” like that located at the crown of a barrel could induce a mechanical failure.

“A dent in a metal surface can significantly contribute to metal fatigue by acting as a stress concentrator, where the repeated loading on the metal creates high stress at the edges of the dent, leading to crack initiation and eventual failure, especially under cyclic loading conditions; essentially, the dent creates a weak point where cracks are more likely to form and propagate with repeated stress cycles”.

Enough said.

When examining the gun before purchase, you first checked that it was unloaded, correct? So, how was actually looking at it a violation of any safety rule?

Secondly, having failed to examine the gun properly before purchase, how can you honestly tell S&W that it was that way when you bought it, and not that you unintentionally dinged it as soon as you took it out of the box?

Get over it, go shoot the gun. There's nothing wrong with it.

The dent in the crown is under the finish. Meaning the barrel was damaged at the factory and then they put the finish on. We shouldn’t have to examine the gun for imperfections .. that should be the QC department of a large publicly traded firearms company

Based upon my 5-1/2 months of ownership of a BG2 and the 10s of thousands of posts on the topic of it's lack of quality control and design flaws, my next firearm purchase will be VERY closely examined and field stripped at the counter before I pay for it and take possession. Having to deal with a firearm Customer Service issue can be pathetically painful and frustrating.

I have some regrets with this gun. I have a perfectly fine LCP max and while it rattles when shaken by it has had no issues .. the finish and machining are great. The only complaint is the blued steel and need to stay on top of it but that is my only gripe. I’ll give CS a call tomorrow and see what they say

That plus the picture are such that I would consider that to be a total non-issue. My guns get more dings from shooting, cleaning, and carrying on a regular basis than that. There's no way I would send the gun back for that.
