When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do, after taking care of the bladder, is to open the back door while heading to the kitchen. This is so I can keep a eye out the sunroom door to the back yard. Today I saw this. "Hu-Man, where is our breakfast?"

Similar time-sensitive schedule here. Get up, go downstairs, turn lights and heat on (as it is winter here), and let Himself (Smudge) out. Make sure cat door is open. I have "xyz" minutes to fill feed bowls before he is sitting in front of them. All this takes precedence over making my morning coffee and breakfast, of course.

There can sometimes be complications:

Cats always seem to be on the wrong side of a door. Ours love to hang out in an open doorway and frequently require assistance making the "in/out" decision. Not that it does any good but I remind them the county does not pay us to heat or cool the ambient air.
