After 25 years …no Internal Lock!

TBTV's James Reeves posted a video on YouTube today from SHOT Show where he interviewed a S&W marketing rep about the new Model 10 Classic no lock.

https://youtu.be/KUj24AciKl0?si=nRdPlFRjQA6_WJbY

If you go to 6:55-ish, you'll hear this:

James Reeves:"They're off now. They're coming off. The locks are coming off."

S&W rep: "Yep. They are."

Based on the context of the conversation just before those comments, it seems to be a good omen that S&W has realized the locks are unnecessary and have hurt sales, so they're going away for good.

As Marcellus Wallace said to Butch in Pulp Fiction

"And when you're gone you stay gone, or you be gone" :)

At 6:20 the rep specifically goes out of his way to point out that the lock is gone, and trails off the end of his sentence with "and these are just the first (models)..."

Color me excited for a no-lock future, especially if they're as well-executed as this returning Model 10. Keeping the no-lock Model 10 with the tapered barrel and half moon front sight in the catalog, and then introducing a Model 13 with a heavy barrel, would be the perfect era progression for styling variations! Jason Cloessner from Lipsey's, Andrew Gore from S&W, and anyone else involved in this process deserve all my gratitude and then some!

The SHOT show has been opened for 30 minutes as I type this post, can't wait to read about what people find.

I heard they did not have the new Model 19 on display for some reason at Shot Show. They just had the new Model 10 and Model 36 on the floor.

Well, the last 686 NL MG to sell went for $1800+ OTD on GB. Hoping to pay no more than 1100 OTD for the new one. Not cheap but better than any one of them I've chased for 15 years.

And the new one has a gold beed partridge front sight. All will have seven chambers and non with Goodyear grips. The new one sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Can't wait for the LGS to notify me for pick up :)

What do you guys think the rate of release will be for new no lock gun models? It just occurred that maybe I shouldn't get too excited. If Smith moves too fast there's probably going to be a lot lock inventory laying around and dealers with stock will probably have to discount them to move. This could actually be harmful to their distributors and dealers. Maybe I'm over thinking this. Can't help it though.

For those that doubt the death of the storage lock, ask yourself why S&W ran a very generous rebate promotion for the last 6 months on all its revolvers?! They are clearing inventory from the distribution channel to make way for no-lock guns…..!

Atleast that is my theory.

I didn't know about the rebates bc I haven't been shopping new smith until last Tuesday morning. Thanks for this note. Your observation quells my concern above.

Glad to see this being noted. Not as obvious as the lock, but bugs the heck out of me that it's off. I guess this is nit picking but again - Smith comes close. :(
FWIW, the N-frames look to me like they may have the same frame profile as the originals. That is one of the features of the 686+ MG that makes it look so attractive to me. From the photos, it seems to have the same aesthetics as the original, pre-lock revolvers.
That may not be true of the J, K, & L frames, but the no-lock N-frames look like they have returned to the original frame profiles.
JMO, but I could be mistaken...
YMMV.

OK.
The point I was making is still the same.
Looking at the photos, at least SOME (but maybe not all) of the new no-lock revolvers appear to have the same frame profile as their pre-lock predecessors.
Personally, I'd be a lot more interested in those with the "classic frame profile". Aesthetically, they just look a lot better to me.
The ones with the IL frame profile just aren't as appealing to me, JMO.
That was my main point.

After a couple of years, the lock type revolvers will be considered ' vintage' and ' rare'.

I just had to double check myself. I would have bought the new No Lock Model 19 if I had not just bought the Lock version in December. I want the 686+ Mountain Gun next. I agree with you, and I think all of the new No Lock offerings look fantastic.
