I picked up a 629-3 Classic in 5” at a local shop that was too good to pass up. The only snag is that there’s no front sight. It looks like there’s nothing at all present - no blade, no pin and nothing else.
According to parts diagrams , it looks like the only thing missing should be a pin. Is that correct or is there a spring that goes within the indent behind the sight blade?

Any other info or advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

That’s what I thought, although it didn’t show in the parts diagram on Brownells. I’m guessing/hoping the back plunger is captive and the cross pin is the only thing that will need to be replaced to allow a new front blade to be installed?
Is there a good place to find a good quality sight and replacement pin?

Thank you - great information!

The sight and sight base is known as Classic Style. There are several makers of that type. I am one of them. I have Patridge black and fiber optic in heights of .200, .250, and .300, and widths of .100 and .125. I also make specials. Contact info below in yellow.

The spring and plunger is only contained by the cross pin at the front, or a sight blade. With the cross pin gone, it's likely the other parts are also missing. I would contact Smith & Wesson for those 3 parts.

Thank you so much . It’s still at the shop for the waiting period, so I haven’t had the chance to inspect what’s missing and familiarize myself with how it’s put together. Frankly the grip looks like it was used to fry chicken, so I’ll have some time to order while I’m cleaning it.

I’d like to keep as close to stock as possible, so I’ll be sure to order a classic Black and Red from your shop.

Thanks!

Finally took possession of the revolver and spent some time cleaning up the internals and surfaces. It’s definitely been used, but lockup and actions all run really tight and smooth.
Swapping in some new sights on it, then should be ready to go to the range…
