EDUCATE ME About the CS9

I don't think we will ever see any of the metal framed Third Gen guns new from S&W again. They no longer make anything in the line for consumer sales. They will build a bunch of whatever a law enforcement agency will order (I don't know how many "a bunch" is) but most everybody now wants a 1911 or a plastic framed semiauto.

I am afraid that what we have out there is all we will ever have.

IWB? OWB? Pocket?

You fellows carrying the CS9 everyday, what method? IWB? OWB? Pocket carry?

And what are you using as a holster? Thanks! Regards 18DAI

AE nelson summer special (see above) & a sticky holster for pocket carry. ANY non plastic Glock 19 or 27 holster will work well

Picked up my "new to me" CS9 yesterday. Came with 3 mags (2 are the wider flat base plates) and the Big Dog grips. While at my LGS picking the pistol up began looking at OWB holsters. I found The Tauga Quick Draw Springfield XDS was a perfect snug fit!!! Anyone use that particular holster?

Cheers!!!
David

Initially, special assignment necessitated CS9 ankle carry (my least favorite) but extremely comfortable in a Bianchi Triad ankle holster, then a Ted Blocker horizontal shoulder holster rig which was excellent for comfort and concealment, then a Galco belt slide, which was fine.

price question

I have a 95% Stainless CS9 that I have priced at 625, how overpriced is this? I read the date post but wondered about the number made, It took a while to find a spare magazine. Atlanta

CS9 were made 1998-2006 beginning with blue but stainless showed up late 1998 so not particularly rare.

Very nice pistol but based on value line which means less desirable sights, poorer blueing (which makes the stainless slightly more desirable), plastic guide rod, etc. I dont think anyone would consider them more collectible than 3rd generation pistols in general.

Parts availability is an issue due to lack of commonality with other 3rd gen pistols. (Recoil Springs are available, unlike the CS40 & CS45, but guide rods are not.)

As to general info, early pistols had a single sided left safety, late pistols (after about 2000) had ambidextrous safety. The magazines are semi-unique - they supposedly fit early 7rd 3913TSW & 3953TSW but bases are slightly different.

There were CS9D Double Action Only variants in both Blue and Silver which were very rare and rare respectively. (I have only seen 1 CS9D in blue SKU 103886 dated year 2000.) These would in my mind command a premium but only if you are trying to "collect" an odd model.

As for value, I just bought (3-16-2025) a stainless CS9 in very good condition with 4 mags and original case for $530 plus tax and shipping or just over $600 to me.

I thought $530 with 4 mags and matching case was a deal. The mags are worth ~$50 each - you can find under that sometimes because they only fit CS9 and early 3913TSW 7rd - but you can also find listed well over that if you are desperate.

Based on my experience , a more realistic price might be $500-550 with 2 mags and no case.

Recent GB sales $482-645. The $645 was silver with case and 2 mags, $482 was silver with no case but 3 mags. Second highest sale $549 (blue) but mostly low $5xx. (GB buyer add roughly $100 for tax, fees, shipping, GB seller subtract fees.)

Other listings $600-799 but NO BIDS. Several with bids under $600 but did not meet reserve - so it appears sellers may be over optimistic.

Great older thread by the way. Seems $500-600 for stainless sounds about right. Glad I kept my box too! Sure makes for a nice carry gun. Mine went for around $550 new back in 99.
