Do you carry a spare magazine?

Some of these post remind me of the guys on a bushcraft forum I frequent. EDC gun, reload, fixed blade knife, back up folding knife, multi tool, flashlight, first aid belt kit matches, tinder, paracord blah blah blah. And I haven’t even got to the shoulder bag contents yet
YES.

Lots of folks in what the late, great, Paul Harrell referred to as, the “what if” brigade. Now it if I lived in the bush, mountains or West Baltimore, I’d be more apt to do those things (and more power to those who do).

I always carry a reload for either a revolver or a semi-auto. With a semi, the magazine is the weakest link in the reliability continuum, so a spare magazine might be the difference between the gun continuing to run or not.

Yep I do....CSX e series with 12 rounders on board and 2 spare 12 rounders in a double mag pouch...they are actually small and the weight is not factor. Also have 2 15 rounders and 2 17 rounders but don't carry them except to the range.

Reminds me of a story I recently heard bear with me I will abbreviate. Talking to a young man in hotel lobby. He told us a story supposedly happened to him. Got into a verbal confrontation at restaurant bar. As he was leaving the other guy was in his truck yelled at him wanted to apologize and insisted upon shaking his hand. So guy walks over extends his hand to shake. That’s when guy pulls his pistol on him. He says he normally carries but didnt that night. He states that he would have fired a few rounds then hid behind truck claimed self defense when police arrived. I let him talk then excused myself. Let me be clear him not carrying that night if story is true saved his life in my opinion. First he allowed himself to get to close. Second he most likely extended his dominant hand meaning he now has to draw shoot with off hand likely hood gun was in neutral position and he practiced that draw 3x more than his regular draw unless the other guy was to drunk to hit target 3 ft away he his a dead man like 99.9 percent of all people I that situation. Most likely scenario if he was carrying is the same outcome he freezes just like he did. His instinct wasn’t to seek cover or draw a weapon that wasn’t there. I shoot at a busy indoor range I don’t eject my mag onto the ground it might fall down range. I also don’t do it because dropping 4-5 ft repeatedly will break something on concrete. Worse having shot out door range sand and calache can gum up any mag in a heartbeat. My wife can’t pull the slide back on 95% of the guns I don’t make her practice reloading if she still sitting in the target zone when her 10+1 and the perpetrators rounds are fired neither one spent enough time at the range and unlikely they brought extra mag. So yes being prepared is nice but if you blew your wad and missed don’t expect the 3-5 seconds it takes to drop reach load aim the perpetrator or perpetrators are either already ran away or taking advantage of you reaching into shirt pocket opening glass case trying to get mag out while holding gun in one hand and glass case in other. I know a guy in town he carries talks a big game his pistol is under his arm pit practically never seen carried that high he always wears it under his shirt which is nicely tucked and covered up by a vest. Thinking he has never seen how quickly he can get out weapon

No magazine here as I carry a revolver and I don't carry it to shoot anybody. But I don't go skipping through life with my head in the clouds either. I am not afraid to move away, hide or runaway. I also know where the rear exits are in the two supermarkets and WalMart I go to. Someone said a long time ago that the best way Not to get killed in a gun fight is to Not get in a gun fight.
Yup I get that and agree. That said, sometimes we simply have no choice.

Carried big ass guns and extra ammo for three decades OTJ. Done with all that for 22 years so far. Now carry a 5 shot J frame mostly and an extra speed strip in my truck and motorcycles. Rarely on my person. I'm comfortable with that decision. I've been training with J frames for 52 years.

I own two 365's and two Glocks. From 6 to 17 round magazines. They are range toys to me. I play with them. I seriously train with the J frame.
Because that's what I carry. Mid summer the G-42 may come out as a more convenient carry.

Always carry a spare mag/reload, as a friend of mine once said: “his buddies might show up before the Law gets here and I’d hate to have nothing but harsh language to defend myself”.

The detachable magazine is sometimes colloquially referred to as a "clip", although this is technically inaccurate since a clip is actually an accessory device used to help load ammunition into a magazine or cylinder.

Sorry, but I'm at that age where I won't stop myself ..... 😂

Yeah, I have to agree. There's a bit of Hollywood influence here. Script writing too. "You don't look so bad, here's another"
