Do you carry a spare magazine?

A 15rd spare to go with the 10rds in my P365. As often noted in this thread, the need for a spare is questionable, but then I have never needed my pistol, either--yet.

So when you were on the job, you never carried extra mags I guess. Why do it, since you likely won't need them.
Because your superiors directed you to do so?

I carry a spare magazine. I haveyet to convince anyone else to do so. I choose not to try anymore.

I know. I found it interesting that he thought civilians carrying extra mags was "Hollywood". When a LEO or a civilian encounters a defensive situation, the need for an extra mag can be the same.
Ah, no. I'm on record stating my usual carry is a 5 shot J frame. 442. Rarely carried a speed strip on person but I will have one nearby.

My Hollywood remark is really about all of the huge guns being reported as EDC as well as the multiple extended magazines. Carrying and concealment is a lot easier with small compact weapons. Being a geezer my only advantage is surprise. Not only does that old gray haired man have a gun it comes out of nowhere and he knows how to use it.

Anyone want to play John Wick, that's fine have at it. I shoot regularly with a bunch of other cops, deputies, special agents and covert operators. We all are ancient and to a man carry little guns because out bodies hurt from the old days of heavy load out. There is a difference if you're carrying for a living, answering gun calls, and making felony arrests on a regular basis. He chance of finding yourself in a shootout in a normal life is nil to none.

Roger that! I misunderstood and thank you for the clarification.

The detachable magazine is sometimes colloquially referred to as a "clip", although this is technically inaccurate since a clip is actually an accessory device used to help load ammunition into a magazine or cylinder.

Sorry, but I'm at that age where I won't stop myself ..... 😂

At 71 I call "em" clips or magazines..........I don't care what other people think or say about that......In my 71 years NO ONE has ever not known what I was talking about...........Nor have ever been called down about it.

Also our state has open or concealed carry........I always carry concealed...........The element of surprise is on your side.

Good sensible post. You obviously live in the real nonfictional world and aren't eaten up with gunfighting theory and associated what ifs.

I have been known to carry a NAA .22 WMR with a five-round speedloader when going into places I know are safe zones, but you never know. Better to have something lethal than nothing.

Always do. Whether for my Shield 9 or my full size M&P.

I don't carry an extra mag.
From all the stats I can find, based upon my location, age, and life style, I have a less than 1% chance of being attacked.
I have a 10% chance of being runover by a snowbird in the parking lot of my local supermarket!
I've been trying to go lighter for about 2 years.

What constitutes a huge gun ?
Carrying and concealment is a lot easier with small compact weapons. Being a geezer my only advantage is surprise. Not only does that old gray haired man have a gun it comes out of nowhere and he knows how to use it.
This gray haired old man knows how to use a gun too. This is another one of those things that I say all the time. My normal dress is Wrangler cargo pants and a t-shirt with a camp shirt over it. If you throw a rock in Colorado Springs you're going to hit a middle-aged man dressed like me. I don't stand out from the crowd dressed like that at all

I generally carry a glock 19 and two reloads. I don't have any problem concealing that the way I dress.
Anyone want to play John Wick, that's fine have at it.
Why the need to disparage people who don't do it your way?

Carry this for a couple years and then get back to me on a heavy load out.

What constitutes "Carrying a gun for a living"? I mean, G4S paid me to carry a gun. "Does that constitute carrying a gun for a living"? I mean I had to carry a company phone too, did I "carry a phone for a living" ? Did you carry your ticket book for a living? I bet you used that a hell of a lot more than you used your gun.
He chance of finding yourself in a shootout in a normal life is nil to none.
Point of order, nil is none.

Another point of order, even though my odds of being in a shootout are nil,

The first one I got stuck in was in 1985? When my stupid drunk roommate's stupid drunk girlfriend showed up at our house one night and got mad at him because he was passed out on the kitchen floor and proceeded to start shooting up our kitchen.
The other three happened right here where I live. Somebody did mag dump out on the street while I was walking my dog. I was on my way to work one night and there was a gunfight at the end of my parking lot that I didn't even see, I just heard and about a month ago there was a shooting on the street out in front of our apartment.

Even if the odds are almost zero they're never actually zero.

My M&P wheel gun is on my or by me, with 2 x +P’s and the other 3 standard critical defense.
The G45 is close enough if need be and I always have a couple spare mags with it. It’s never had a problem cycling anything, but If for some reason it didn’t like something or feed right, I like to have option b or c.

I understand the philosophy of carrying a second mag in case of malfunction. And I agree to a point. Meaning, I've had a Glock 19 Gen5 MOS for 5 years and must have at least 5K rounds thru it. (being conservative) I have had zero misfeed, failure to eject, or any type of malfunction. My Glock isn't completely stock either. I put a Tungsten Guide Rod from The Glock Store, Glock Advanced Trigger, StreamLight TLR 8A G and Holosun SCS Green Dot. With all the add-ons, I have had zero malfunctions. This being said, my philosophy is to spend the money for a quality weapon as your daily carry. Leave the PSA Dagger for the range. Hey they are fun to shoot, my son has one. But he carries a G45. (G19/17 Hybrid) I also agree with the folks who say, more than 15 rounds, you are in a gun fight not defense. FYI, if you are looking for a gun fight, I'm ready for that too. I keep 6 extra mags in my truck under my console arm rest and a S&W M&P FPC in a bag in the rear passenger floorboard. Yea yea yea, I know, I am screwed if I am more than a few feet from my truck. But as some have said, keep your head on a swivel and constant situational awareness.
