Welcome to the Forum! As JP@AK notes, you have an early S&W .38 Military & Police (M&P) revolver. These are sometimes referred to as Model of 1902/1905 4th Change. It appears to be in VG condition, and the stocks (grips) are in fine condition. There were literally millions of M&P revolvers manufactured by S&W over many decades, so your revolver is not particularly rare or valuable. However, an early round butt grip frame like yours that is in VG condition is more scarce than the square butt versions, and quite collectable. Other more knowledgeable Forum members will probably be along shortly to correct or expound on my reply. Enjoy!

It is a .38 Military & Police model from about 1920. It is the round butt variation.

The cartridge designation on the barrel makes it clear - it is designed to shoot the .38 Special cartridge.
