SIG P320 Discharges?

Swiss Gun, German Name, Austrian Cartridge

The first striker-fired gun was invented in 1878 by American gunmaker, Daniel LeFever. It was a hammerless automatic shotgun.

John Browning invented and patented the single action striker fired semi-automatic mechanism in 1896. Colt passed on the design, so he took it to FN in Belgium. It was first used in the FN Browning M1900, which was also the first pistol to use a slide. The FN Models M1910 and M1922 handguns also utilized the Browning striker-firing mechanism.

Why Colt passed on John Browning's striker-fired gun at the turn of the 19th/20th Century I don't know. And why FN stopped producing the M1910 in 1983 I just haven't taken the time to research. 1983 was a crazy year. GM didn't even make a Corvette that year.

Safeties? We don't need no stinking safeties!

"Meanwhile, it doesn’t take much imagination to see how the P320’s striker safety block (circled in red below)—which is supposed to stop the striker at the very end of its movement, just prior to emerging from the breech face—could fail should the striker slip off the sear."

It may be "imagined", but so far has ANYONE been able to duplicate, create, or cause it to happen in any testing?

Now you’re changing the question from “describe a situation” to “prove it.”

I can’t, nor do I have any desire to. I have precisely zero financial or emotional investment in the Sig P320. I merely find the whole situation intriguing and perplexing.

Why didn’t the ARMY pick up these issues at initial testing.
Do you honestly think proper testing was done to vet the gun? From all appearances the choice was made before the trials. A common thing seen in banana republics like the US government with corruption galore. The only question I have is, who got the bribes?

The statute doesn't render SIG immune from lawsuits, nor, in fact, does it protect SIG to the exclusion of other gun manufacturers; it merely prevents lawsuits against gun manufacturers based on the lack of certain features also widely lacked by the manufacturers of other widely sold firearms.

"As written, the new law explicitly states that gun makers cannot be sued for products lacking magazine disconnects, which prevent guns from firing if their magazines have been removed; loaded-chamber indicators that notify gun owners if a round is chambered; smart technology that ensures a gun can only be operated by authorized users; or an “external mechanical safety” like the “tabbed trigger safety” found on Glock-style pistols."

For example, the lack of a thumb safety, or magazine disconnect.

The statute does not apply to lawsuits that claim a firearm is defective when it does not function as intended or if it violates existing laws.

Oh, the horror.

I blame the sensationalist gun tuber industry for the promulgation of misinformation and falsehood regarding the statute.

Respectfully, the statute does insulate Sig from liability on the 320. Your quote reflects that.

Respectfully, the statute doesn't insulate Sig or any New Hampshire gun manufacturer against lawsuits related to alleged product deficiencies including defective design, materials or manufacturing; it only precludes lawsuits based on the lack of any of these 4 "safety" features:

Thumb safety, chamber loaded indicator, magazine disconnect safety, or hinged type/ tabbed trigger.

The statute does not bar lawsuits that claim a firearm is defective when it does not function as intended or if it violates existing laws.

Another uncommanded discharge from the Ceres California PD that happened a week ago.
Seems everytime a P320 thread gets started it happens again.

From the article:

"The firearm and holster will be submitted to the California Department of Justice for inspection and evaluation to determine the cause of the discharge, officials said."

Yeah, good luck with that. :)

ICE just canned the use of the P320 and are going with G19.
Some training companies have banned them and Sig Brand partners are dropping them.
