Optic plate on Shield 1.0

My Shield 1.0 has sat for about eight years. I want to try a red dot on it but don't want to spend for milling or a slide. Thinking about going with an optic plate (EGW) and a Vortex Viper Red dot for a budget approach. The downsides I can see are having the dot too high and possible durability.

Just wondering if others have tried it and what their thoughts are.

I put a dot on a 9EZ with a plate in the dove tail, shot very well and had no problems adjusting to it. Ideal? No but definitely an option.

Thank you. I was thinking about this but higher on my list is an Apex trigger kit. I'm thinking now it might be a lot to invest and put the $ towards a new pistol instead.

I'd agree a plate is $50, apex trigger is another $100 I think, so $150 towards a new pistol could be better. Sell the old one for a couple of hundred too.

I know the gen 1's are good and in some scenarios are still well worth keeping/shooting/carrying, YMMV.
