Thank you Doc!A 44 Magnum round was placed there by a former owner. '79 Magnum GT is probably correct as to the type.

Richard, that’s a sweet early 44 Magnum with the scarce satin lining. Not many of those around.
That’s where the brush goes that’s shown on the end of the cleaning rod.Bill, on that early clamshell case, there seems to be an indentation just to the right of the mop. Was there supposed to be an item there? I have a couple of the clamshell cases and they don't have that indent.
My gun was purchased from a Police Supply in March 1981, a 4 inch with the target hammer and trigger, red ramp sight and big grips, in an identical case. I will check it later today. Regardless of style and variation, the make a good presentation of the 44 mag.44 Magnums with an 8 3/8-inch barrel were first shipped in late 1958 and cataloged in January 1959. The presentation case used for these revolvers is like the one shown in post #8 by RKmesa. S&W never made a dark blue/black presentation case for a 44 Magnum with an 8 3/8-inch barrel. Mahogany cases with cloth lining were also used for other barrel lengths, but cases for 4 and 6 1/2-inch guns are not seen very often. By April/May 1960 the switch to the clamshell case had been made.

Model 29, S200201, shipped on May 6, 1960, in one of the first clamshell presentation cases. Note the latches used on this case are the same as those used on the blue/black presentation cases.

The case on the left is the type of box used from about 1979-1983 and shipped with N frame guns. The case on the right was introduced in 1985. The 1985 case was made in two lengths with the longest case being able to contain the 10 5/8" barrel Silhouette guns.
I have never seen one for the 29-3 Silhouette. However theres a gentleman who makes custom cases, so if youre willing to drop some dough, yes, you can have a factory appearing (probably even nicer) presentation caser for your long tube. Someone will be along shortly to provide the name of the guy who makes them.Very nice congrats does anyone know if they make a presentation box for my 29-3 10 5/8 barrelView attachment 779155
