Or perhaps more accurately, a "cowgirl" one. A publicity photo of actress Gail Davis in her 1950's television role as Annie Oakley. The revolver she's brandishing is clearly an S&W M&P, nickeled or chromed, fitted with "stag" grips, and as a final touch sporting a faux ejector rod housing grafted onto the barrel.

In the 1950 movie musical “Annie Get Your Gun”, Betty Hutton in the title role has two similarly modified DA revolvers. Maybe the same ones. I don’t remember whether they were Colts or S&Ws. Not that it makes any difference.

I remember noticing Annie's modified revolver back when the show ran on TV. Was just a kid but I could see that her gun was different.

And here is steely eyed Clu Gulager with a similar dummy ejector rod on a Hand Ejector.

I had an old Gun Digest with an article on prop guns. There were a lot like that. There was even a New Service with the grip frame modified to "plow handle" so it would look right in the holster.
Also numerous Colt SAAs with webs added under the barrel to look like a Remington.

I figure that there were actors who did not want to be bothered to learn SAA handling.

I figure that there were prop men who wanted to be able to quickly reload with blanks for the next take.
Similarly, exhibition shooter Gus Peret liked the SAA plowhandle but wanted to be able to reload and move on to the next trick shot. So he had custom gunsmith, Ashley Haines, put a M&P barrel, cylinder, and yoke on a shop made frame with SAA grip straps. Internal parts were SAA or made for the job.

Watch the Comancheros chasing Gus in "Lonesome Dove" and note the DA Smith
in the hand of the outlaw.
A still screen shot on IMFDA shows it clearly. Enjoying the easter eggs
