Thought he learned his lesson as Reacher, guess not. Supposed to be out later this year. A lot of the other originals are supposed to be in it.

He was married to Nichole Kidman for a while. :p

I enjoyed a lot of his movies including Top Gun and Mission Impossible, but I changed my opinion of him when I learned he was into Scientology.

There are other veteran actors that I have no truck with their spiritual beliefs but appreciate their work nonetheless.

I do think Cruise is a decent actor. But, the character of Reacher was defined by his huge size and strength in the novels. Cruise could not pull off playing that character for those who read the novels. For those who had no back story or context, and just watched the movie, I'm sure it was enjoyable as any other action adventure flick.

And the same thing applies to Walt Longmire. IIRC, in the books he's around 6'4" about 9" taller than Cruise. Not even lifts will help there.

I had read the books but I dropped my preconceived notions and let Cruise take me where he would.

All were pleasant journeys.

I think most remakes are like that, if you didn't see the original movie/TV show or read the book it's easier to enjoy the remake. For example, True Grit with John Wayne is one of my favorite movies, but the Jeff Bridge's version is much truer to the original story line from the book. In the book, Rooster is not the main character, Mattie is.

Of all the movies based on Tom Clancy books, only Hunt For Red October is even close to the original story line. The rest were pretty much butchered. I suppose they were good enough movies if you watched them without any preconceived considerations but I had a hard time getting over that.

As for Mission Impossible, I really liked the Tom Cruise movies, possibly because I've never watched the original series. I thought he did okay with Reacher, but being a fan of the Longmire series I have reservations about him doing a remake but I admit I've never read any of the books, so maybe the series sucked and I just didn't realize it.

Alan Ladd was only 5'6" tall. However, everyone believed he was bigger. Look at "Shane", like I wrote camera angles, boxes and other means of deception..........

He is a superb actor who immerses himself in his roles. He is also a box office draw. Money in the bank as it were.

PS: Ruthie detests the song "Short People".

Don't blame her a bit.
I'm short and don't like it at all. Is it funny to laugh at old people? fat people, tall people, skinny people, Autistic people, etc. How about people that own guns?

Rick

Ruthie is 4'10". The song Short People came out in 1977 her junior year in HS. Her entire class razzed her about it.

People can certainly be cruel.
