This past April the Mrs and I visited Arizona again and we came back with a nice polished piece of petrified wood. Our idea was to have a small end table made with forged legs.

A blacksmith I recently met at a sporting clays charitable shoot said he liked to do custom work so we collaborated and this is the result. My wife and I are very happy with the outcome and feel our smith did some very nice work.

We really like the live edge on the petrified wood slab and think the "vining leaves" was a great artistic touch by the black smith. The little table is perfect to set a cup of coffee or tea on while reading.IMG_20250805_105705.jpgIMG_20250805_105529.jpgIMG_20250805_105516.jpgIMG_20250805_105543.jpg

Nice looking table. Very innovative.
You may end up wishing the feet extended out a few more inches. Looks like it is top-heavy and could tip over easily if bumped.

Phenix, my thoughts also. But still pretty cool. To the op, maybe get your artistic smith to add a solid steel base not as large but copying the general outline of the stone top. Would make it sturdier.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments.

My wife and I are so happy with the way this turned out we ordered another piece of Arizona petrified wood to have a second end table made.

Below is a picture of that piece.

While in the photos the table may appear top heavy the weighty base renders it quite stable.

We love the beauty of Arizona and feel this is a way to bring a little bit back home.

Arizona was always a favorite for my Grandmother and Father. One year we ended up meeting a guy whose Grandfather help get the area turned into a National Park. He still owned some property that was next to the park. All we had to do was buy a suitcase of beer, some ice and a Styrofoam cooler and he would let us walk his property. They used to have an ice cream shop on the property as there was a road that was a branch off from Route 66. Lot of history there. My Grandmother would buy some nice pieces of wood and he would give her more. Every time she gave him money he felt obligated to give her more wood. It was a wonderful relationship. Not sure he is still around. Last time we saw him he was recovering from a heart attack. Still have some wonderful pieces from him.

My father would tumble smaller pieces for my grandmother. She would give them out to people she would meet with 1 condition. If she ever met them again, they would have to produce the piece and match her piece. She would pull her piece out and say, "Match me." Many a friend was made that way. I still carry a piece with me and knock on it for good luck.
