My bride and I celebrated our 52nd anniversary yesterday, not a milestone number per se but on the other hand every one after 50 sort of is. I gave her the choice of restaurants and she picked one of our favorites, The Buffalo Bar and Grill here in Payson. Naturally I was drinking Buffalo Trace, she had margaritas and we just had lots of heavy Hors D'oeuvres.
We invited the widow next door to join us and she volunteered to drive and I was happy to let her. The restaurant is only 1.5 miles from our house but for an event that calls for adult beverages it worked out great and we all had a blast.
I had stopped by the Buffalo earlier in the day and met the manager explaining my plans. Asked her to hold a nice booth for us and told her I would be back in a few minutes with a dozen red roses. She liked that a lot and promised to keep them chilled until just prior to our arrival.
I bought a nice vase at Goodwill for $1.50 and then headed to the local Florist. I asked for dozen red roses and she calmly said that would be $150. I laughed in her face and replied "Not Today!" Headed over to Safeway and picked up a beautiful dozen reds for $33. When we walked in there was our booth with a fancy reserved sign and the roses. To say that my bride was very pleased and the widow impressed would be an understatement.
We spent a couple of hours grazing/drinking and several folks stopped by our table to congratulate us and comment that we did not look old enough to have been married for 52 years. I always explain that we married when we were 12... we didn't want, we had to! Actually I was 18 and my bride was 19... ya gotta love those older women!
A great time was had by all and we are now officially working on 53.
