ARREST MADE IN SIG DEATH ON WYOMING AIR FORCE BASE

Military authorities have arrested an Airman in the death that occurred on an Air Force base in Wyoming last month. It seems that they now believe that the "uncommanded" discharge of an M-18 (SIG P-320) pistol was in fact NOT uncommanded after all. The unnamed suspect has been charged with making a false statement and manslaughter.

There is a thread on the Northwest Firearms Forum regarding the Sig P320. It turns out if you don't follow the procedure for reassembly exactly as it is stated in the manual you can get a discharge with nothing in the trigger guard and nothing jammed in the trigger to take up pre travel.

Let's face it, how many of us actually read the manuals. I am going to test this out with mine 320 tomorrow. We really need to stop taking procedures in the manual as mere suggestions.

We aren't as smart as we think we are sometimes. Putting it together by not following the procedure can allow the striker to slip, by just putting a little pressure on the back of the slide.

I actually read the manual for (almost) anything that I buy. Not so much because I don't know anything about it, but because I'm curious if there is anything special about it! So I read to find hidden gems, in case it isn't a well known feature. TV's, radios, drills, anything…oh, and firearms too!
I'm weird that way.

And suddenly, it gets real quiet. I really think entities that slandered Sig, should pay the piper.
