Holster for scoped 6" N-Frame (deer hunting)
My eyes are no longer as sharp as they used to be.
Got a Weigand Picatinny mount (SWHPMNTS) and I want to use a straight 4x LER scope for deer. Ranges from 75 to 125 yds. I have an Uncle Mike's shoulder holster, alas, for open sights...
Smith Wesson scope mounts KLN frame Weaver WEIG-A-TINNY
Any preferences?

Preferences? There are lots of preferences out there.
As a retired holster maker (43 years) my questions would be:
1. Which N-frame revolver?
2. Which barrel profile?
3. Which scope mount?
4. Which scope?
5. Suit coat size (necessary to determine proper lengths for straps, etc)?
Not as simple as it may appear to be. I offered 13 holster designs, with or without 4 common options, left-hand and right-hand, in 4 finish colors, for 142 different handguns. This resulted in over 80,000 possible variations (about 550 different holsters for every handgun), but I always had people wanting something different.
Making a holster to an established and proven pattern is one thing. Making a holster on a custom basis for a one-of-a-kind handgun is something else. Patterning, production prototype, adjusting the pattern to final form (frequently 2 or 3 times), then producing the final product, these things consume far more time than any standard production holster.
There is a reason why very few sources produce certain things.
My best recommendation for you is to locate a competent holster maker close to your home so you can make your revolver/mount/scope combination available for patterning and forming your holster without going through the usual colonoscopy exams involved (and expense) of interstate shipping of a firearm. Be prepared to pay for the maker's time in discussing your requirements, producing initial patterns for approval, a first or second rough draft, then the final product.
It won't be cheap and it won't happen overnight.
Best regards from an old retired holster maker.

Some of it is simple. 657 with a 6" barrel (5 1/2" which extends past frame) .775" dia barrel, .610" full lug. Unfluted cylinder. Top of front sight to bottom of lug is 1.670". Scope mount is a Wiegand SWHPMNTS Smith Wesson scope mounts KLN frame Weaver WEIG-A-TINNY I can't give you more dimensions until the base comes in and I install it. The mount is 4 1/2" long.
Scope is unknown, I dislike buying cheap and I can't afford swank. At this point, I am leaning to a 4x32 scope.
This will be for winter, third to fourth week in December, temps have historically ranged from mid 40s to -10, my outfit usually is a windbreaker, pile jacket, thermal top. For the really COLD days, I pull out my hollow fill parka.
I do mostly stand hunting where I walk to my blind with a backpack, so my preference is for a chest holster. A belt holster will hang up in my chair. I suspect that the backpack straps will interfere with an under arm holster.

Simply Rugged.
Simply Rugged Holsters - Leather Holsters, Leather Gun Belts, Leather Ammo Pouches and Leather Accessories
Scoped Revolver Holster - Leather Holster
A bit spendy at $230.00, but a good deal for what you get for the money.
They make the holster specifically for your gun. You need to email them pictures of your gun and they make the holster to fit.
I just got one last fall for my scoped Model 29-3, and I was impressed.
Just a note - the chest harness is sold separately from the holster, so you need to order the harness too.

Holy paddle, Batman!
In my recent search for holsters, I saw one that was open along the top of the barrel and top strap. Not sure of the nomenclature, but a clamshell?
I'll look for it again. Heck, at this rate, it will be a totally enclosed holster with a flap...

Open holsters for scoped N-Frame
Galco Kodiak

I am not a gunfighter... No walking about with my hand hovering above the snaps, ready to quick-draw faster than McGivern (?)...
Edit. A number of what I think are called "bandolier style"... funky, clunky... still surfing.

I just came back to this post.
I don't know if you're still looking for a holster.
When i was searching, I looked high and low. I looked at the Galco Kodiak and they don't appear to make a holster for a Smith & Wesson with a 6" barrel. Another outfit I looked at doesn't make holsters for scoped handguns.
I found out about Simply Rugged and looked into them. I really like the way that the scope is protected inside the holster too, so that helped me make the final decision.

KNJ - Chest Holster (Scoped) CHS-06 does it...
Link to KNJ CHS holster. Image does not show scoped holster, but is correct...
Web Store
Workmanship was great, buckles are first rate, stitching is neat, the S&W 657 6.5" barrel fits snugly within the holster (fine for WI deer hunting), retention strap fits behind hammer, used a 2x Leupold scope on a WEIG-A-TINNY base. Had to swap out the 2x to a 2-6x 32mm import (reticule would not adjust to be clear). SDZ is serious about fixing shipping mistakes... Wow.
The CHS-06 is a bandolier holster, and it does have an adjustable velcro fastened loop to run a belt through. But I just used it as a bandolier for going to and from my stand deer hunting, no issues. Too much cold weather clothes on to futz about using a belt...
CHS-04 Fits: Most 4" Revolvers up to S&W N Frame
CHS-06 Fits: Most 6" Revolvers up to S&W N Frames
CHS-08 Fits: Most 8" Revolvers up to S&W N Frames
CHS-10 Fits: Most 10" Revolvers up to S&W N Frames
CHS-14 Fits: 14" Barreled Thompson Contender

Back in the day before all the great holster makers we have now I improvised one to fit my revolver. I bought a cheap leather Hunter brand holster (I know!), cut a slot down the front to allow the Bushnell scope and mount to slide into and allowed the revolver to go down into the holster. It offered no protection for the scope so I wore it under my coat. These days I would look into a across the chest rig.

I made a custom holster for a 454 Casull for a friend. It has 2 straps that keep the gun snug in the holster, and will only release the gun after both straps are released.
This design allowed the holster to open like a clam shell for fast draw. It was a complicated design based on what he wanted.
Thank you,
