Dentures Again! What's Your Favorite Denture Adhesive?
As a lot of you know, I've been asking a lot of questions about dentures lately in the past 2 months because I had all my top teeth pulled and I'm trying to get through this and it's been a real bear.
I'm still eating "baby food" and my denture still hurts when it's in and it still flops around and my main complaint is finding a denture adhesive that works for moderate eating or ANY eating at all!
I know I have several more months to go through alignments and such but what do you denture pros recommend for me concerning denture adhesive?
I've already been told NOT to wear any at adhesive at all but that person had a perfect experience getting his dentures in but I HAVE NOT!
I've tried Sea-Bond, Fixodent and Super Poligrip so far. Sea-Bond has been a bust as has Fixodent but Super Polygrip has been the best adhesive so far.
What's your opinion?

When I was a kid, I had a partial plate for a while due to an accident...even then it was poly grip and I cleaned with efferdent.
Today I use Ez-O and efferdent but not for dentures. Music stuff.

1. Super Poligrip (regular)
2. Fixodent.
3. I've never found anything else that works at all!

In the 40+ years I have worn dentures, I found that a good dentist can fit me with dentures that are comfortable, give me a good bite capability, and stay in place without any nasty denture gunk in my mouth. I can tackle a bag of peanuts, apples, or a tough steak with no problem whatsoever. Once you're fully healed and the gum shrinkage final, if yours won't do that, make him do it over or find a better dentist. Of the brief periods I did have ill fitting dentures, I never found anything that worked as well as those smiling old folks in the commercials claimed. The formed gooey little pads that compress to fit the gums came the closest to any real benefit and were the least offensive to the gag reflex. You will find that you need to modify your bite and chew tecnique compared to how you did it with your natural teeth. Once you master that with properly fitted dentures, you forget you even have dentures until cleaning time.

MY dentist told me he had good news and bad news...The good news is my teeth are perfect...the bad news is my gums have to come out....

I had to go the denture experience over a year and a half ago.. Dentist took impression, sent to lab. First, lab tried to make a partial leaving 6 front teeth. The denture fit like an old rubber boot. Went back for 're-fitting' few times and nothing improved. They did a new partial denture and it was no better fit. I finally got my and the insurer's money back and went to a recommended dentist. He told me having an upper installed first then having a lower installed later would guarantee one thing - the two would never fit each other well. He also told me that having a few lower teeth pulled and fitting the lower to the remaining lowers with a small bridge would keep the lowers from flopping around as a lower with no other suport but the gums would never fit w/o moving, no matter how much 'glue' was used.
I later found out that two of my friends went to this dentist for the same thing and never had to use any 'cement' for either the upper or the lower. I have known the one friend for over 25years and by the way he talks, eats, etc. I never would have suspected he ever wore dentures if he hadn't told me !
I found that dentists and denture makers are like 'gunsmiths'- Many claim the ability compared to the true few who have it.
Keep looking and don't get disappointed (I didn't start voicing my displeasure until I had had enough of sloppy work.) There are people out there who actually take an interest in doing things in detail. I have found that when done right, you should need nothing to keep a properly fitted upper denture in place.
(And don't be afriad to involve your dental insurer - my wife's dental insurer told me they were willing to intervene at any time I thot I and they were paying for shoddy craftsmanship.)

I've never had to use an adhesive to keep them in place but Crazy Glue has been holding them together for the last two years.

HA, HA, HA! Go ahead and make fun but you guys may have to go through this someday! I WISH I could cement these in but you're answers aren't that funny. I wouldn't wish this on anyone what I've gone through!
Thanks to all who answered seriously and to the rest, keep your opinions to yourselves unless you've gone through this.
I'm not above your jokes but why would you come aboard and mock this?
I know life's a joke but this isn't.
Thanks to all that posted seriously.

I wasn't mocking anything. I've had dentures since my mid twenties. They broke in half two years ago and I crazy glued them back together. I have to re-glue them every couple of months and take them out to eat so I really miss some of my favorite foods but they fit right and stay in place. Maybe you just need a better fit
