DOES ALLIGATOR REALLY TASTE LIKE CHICKEN

It tastes so good I have thought about hunting them. It's not like we have any shortage of them...

charlie sherrill,
I've led a sheltered life, I've never eaten rattlesnake either. I have heard people say that rattlesnake is good though.

mmmm Florida chicken. Great when it's hot. Cold, the more you chew the bigger it gets.

To me it always had the consistency of Lamb, but a taste all to its own.

Little restaurant outside Gainesville (FL), Cross Creek, in the 80's would serve it cubed and deep fried, I would get it in a combo with fried soft-shell crab and rice and gravy. Man that was good!

The 2 times I ate gator it was kinda like eaten a muddy chicken leg. Once was in N.O., La. at a very famous eatery and the last time was in lower Miss. I will pass when its offered again..............

Gator tastes more like eagle - Ya know, that fish taste kinda back there.
Rattlesnake tastes more like owl - Ya know, that mouse taste kinda back there.

Stuff tastes kinda like what it eats.
Squirrel has a nutty taste, etc.

Y'all actually eat chickens?
It's gotta taste like - Well, ya know  (ain't no yuck emotion thingy)

I'm with Deadeye

Howdy,
I'm kinda with Deadeye on this.
If you can get it wild it is a lot better than some of the farm raised gator that spends it's life living in it's own filth.
I never thought frog or gator tasted like chicken.
Thanks
Mike

I thought it tasted more like a pork tenderloin, only a little tougher.
I have had it fried and in a gumbo.

It's pretty good--depending on how it's served and who is doing the cooking.
It can blow up in your mouth if care is not taken. I like catfish, oysters, shrimp, red fish, trout and flatfish better---don't really care for craw fish---have to work too hard for the morsel you get.
Red Beans and Rice will stay with you---now dang it all-I'm gettin hongry again.
Blessings

PS---i have an honest to goodness good snappin turtle story to tell---but its long. That is if'n you want to hear it.

Guess I'm the exception. I had it once, at a local seafood restaurant. "Deep fried alligator nuggets". Don't know what part of the gator it came from (although I thought people only ate the tail). Don't really remember what it tasted like, but I do know that I was so impressed I decided I wasn't gonna eat gator again.

Like Coors beer, it had a lot of hype, but didn't live up to it.

Not a big gator fan-seems like the more I chew it, the bigger it gets. Would rather eat chicken ;)

i agree w/ Charlie Sherrill, it is more like snake. We serve it in my resturaunt - grilled, fried or blackened - little bite sized pieces scattered over a bed of fresh greens and a little honey mustard dressing......yum!!!
