been done many times, but I'm search challenged

Don't need anything expensive or super professional, just a handy rest for sighting in my handguns.

I realize sand bags could be a viable option.

Thanks

Actually, sandbags are one of the best options, will conform to the part of the gun resting on them. You need 3-4 bags (25lb shot bags filled with used tumbler media are the lightest). Never rest the barrel on the rest, only the frame (front of the trigger guard). It helps to have a piece of old heavy canvas or leather to cover the bags when shooting with revolvers as the BC gap gasses will eventually cut holes in the bags. Also, regardless of what kind of rest you use, be careful where you put your off hand, and do not get it inline with the BC gap. (ask me how I know).

just the kind of info I was looking for

borrowed a friends little "Caldwell" bag last week and proceeded to cut a hole in it within a few shots :0

I tried two different inexpensive pistol rests and went back to shot bags like dad and I did when I was a kid.

The inexpensive rests are adjustable but not quite enough for some guns. Sometimes too short and other times too tall so I had to adjust. Accuracy went out the window.
