Bob Hope Christmas Show From Vietnam

Martha Rae did a show at Bien Hoa AB in either '66 or '67...... only show I saw while I was there.

The first New Year show Bob Hope did outside of a combat zone was done at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth. I had the priviledge of being in the audience at the show.

My memory of Bob Hopes show in Vietnam was not a good one. There we were, several thousand of the 101st Airborne, at Camp Eagle (near Phu Bai) sitting in the broiling sun waiting for him to arrive. He came in by Chinook, circling above us at low altitude, blowing up a dust storm that coated us totally in grime (but maybe this was not his decision, so I can't blame him for this). Once the show started we could hardly see anything because the focus was totally on his performance for the cameras, not the audience. If I recall the show included Jerry Cologna (not worth mentioning) and Lola Falana (not sure of the spelling). Lola ran through the audience, giving the guys a good show, as she was one hot female. But overall many of us realized it was a good thing we were not allowed to bring our weapons to the show because most in the audience were griping that they were sorry they bothered coming there at all! Funny thing is, I cannot recall when this happened during my tour, which was the summer of '70 through the summer of '71.

saw Hope at Da Nang in 65 and Martha Ray aboard the carrier...we also saw Ann Margret and Vicki Carr...a very nice break....Martha Ray picked on the Capt. of the ship a lot and had us in stitches

Bob Hope Show

We cut cards in my outfit for a chopper ride to the Christmas show on Phu Cat air base in '68--I was one of two lucky winners. Bob was great, but I can still close my eyes and see Ann-Margret--long wavy flaming red hair and a black bodysuit.
