Does any stores sell heated cashew nuts anymore?
Theresa just set out some cashews. I hinted she should heat them and told her how all the dimestores etc heated them under a heating lamp or whatever. Got thinking about it and I dont think I have seen that done in over 60 years! They were to die for!

I remember. You could go to the five and dime or Sears or Monkey Wards and they had hot peanuts, hot cashews and hot potato chips right there in the candy section sold by the ounce to a pound or more. Those were the days my friend.

I worked loss prevention at Sears part time, while on the Elyria PD. Mostly evenings, so when I would get to the store and start working, I usually stopped at the candy counter and got a large box of popcorn to eat while walking around. I think they made the best popcorn ever. The aroma from the popcorn and hot cashews drifted throughout the entire store.
At one time they had a deli section too, and I always liked their headcheese.

The Cabelas in Lehi, Utah, still does that occasionally. Not all the time, but I've been there once or twice when they were doing it. Their inventory doesn't last long.

Store up the road still has them under warmer lights. I get some at times or maybe their jerky instead. I need to make a trip again as this thread got me hungry for them.

I got some from a vendor @ the East Side farmer's market in York, Pa. yesterday...
They're great, but @ $15/lb they're a treat rather than a staple.

Some mall shops sell them that way in the Dallas area, or have in recent times. I haven't looked lately.
You can buy loose nuts in gourmet grocers and heat them, I guess.
You are fortunate to have a wife who nurtures you that way.

I vaguely recall Walgreen's or Kresge's in Chicago selling them back in the '60s.

There used to be Planter's Peanuts stores in Tennessee and Kentucky when I was a kid. They were constantly roasting all kinds of nuts, including cashews as I recall. The smell wafting out on the sidewalk was intoxicating. But that was at least sixty years ago.

Lol!!!!
Place right in Auburn, Massachusetts, Arcade Snacks, still roasts cashews that you can buy right there.
Here's a story from the local paper George A. Ethier, president and chairman of the board, Arcade Snacks, Auburn - Worcester Telegram & Gazette - telegram.com
that says the owner was owed money and was paid with 600 cashew roasters that used to be in a Sears Roebuck stores.

I hadn't seen them in a very long time, but I grabbed a bag on my way out of the Opryland Mall when I was in Nashville a couple months back from a guy at a Kiosk. They didn't last the walk out to the car.

Cabela's here in Lacy were selling some kind of heated nuts last time I was in. I think they were some kind of candied or coated but I'm not sure what.

I loved the kiosk
They put the little island with the nuts and candy in the middle of an aisle and I loved to walk past there, because the warmed items smelled SO good. And the little scale they weighed stuff on.

The last time I was in the "Big Apple" you could get them from vendors on the streets especially around Midtown. And also the world famous "dirty water hot dogs". Both are EXCELLENT!

Here in Iowa, all the Ben Franklin dime stores had the hot nuts and that salty aroma was the first thing that hit you in the nose as you walked in. If I remember right, Wall Drug in South Dakota still has this in one of the stores .

Not only do cashews have a lower fat content than most other nuts, approximately 82% of their fat is unsaturated fatty acids, plus about 66% of this unsaturated fatty acid content are heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, similar to those found in olive oil.
..and I love 'em!!

Kresge's five and dime stores had them a long time back, and Sears also had them. There was also a department store chain, Grant's, that had them, too.

We still have a few stores that sell them at one time all the drug stores sold them, they would put them in a small wax paper bag, the only stores that still do it are stores that sell just candy.

The nut part grows on the bottom of the cashew apple, unlike a regular apple where the seed is inside...

I remember the times I would go shopping with mom to the Rich's Department Store in downtown Atlanta. That was the one on both sides of the street with a bridge across the street. The bridge itself was several stories high and had merchandise in it. But the best part was the candy/nut aisle. Rarely could I talk mom into candy but she would usually buy me some of the heated cashews. Usually after shopping, we would get something to eat at the lunch counter and I always got a BLT. Wow that brings back memories.

Man, I didn't think Doug Clark & the Hot Nuts made it that far north!
You could also roast your own:

When I was a kid, a trip to Sears almost always included a stop at the candy counter. Mixed nuts were on a rotating tray under a lamp. Haven't seen one since the department store candy counters went away. I imagine one could be found on EBAY.

Stopped by Bunte's on Friday and snapped a pic for you guys. They also have peanuts, spanish peanuts, and mixed. Old style scale still used to measure on top of nut box.
Couldn't help to grab a quarter pound of whole/halved warm salted cashews @ $2.59. Served bagged in a white paper sack and delicious as expected.
