You members who live around Central Texas know of these. As you enter Gonzales these signs are posted along the side of the road.

I got up early this morning to drive to Victoria to do a little gun trading. I always enjoy driving this route (US Hwy 183) all these little communities are so full of Texas History. Gun trading completed, I head home feeling good about my trade and my State and it's history. This is where this story gets weird and I feel like sharing.

Once home my telephone rings, on the other end is a man who is associated with the Alamo Museum. He explains to me the Alamo will soon be opening a 3 month long display of old guns, ammo, accessories, etc, and he has been told that I may have some old, antique ammo, and would I mind loaning these to the Alamo for their display.

I tell him, give me an hour or so and I'll deliver the ammo to the front door of the Alamo.

Very nice. I just wish I was going to be in Texas during that time period, I'd drive down to SA just for that.

Yep, me too. I'm a lil closer though than you I believe.
Been wanting to take g-kids to SA anyway. Was thinking about Amtrak outta OKC but this time of year in SA is prolly hotter than the hubs of hell.

Please post some pics and details of the event. My wife and I are always interested in area "day trips".

Yeah, you have me beat by about 1,500 miles or so.

I was at the Texas State Museum in Austin last month, but it's not the same thing.

Very good of you. Phil Collins just donated a very nice collection he had acquired over the years to the Alamo. It is humbling to think of the sacrifices made by these heros to create the great state we live in. (Which started as it's own country by the way!)

I so very much hopes this happens. From just the little bit of info I learned today, the display will run from October through December, the man I spoke with was not exactly sure of the true dates.

All of the items on display will be displayed inside of the Alamo.

After the call today I started thinking. A room full of Texicans, acquainted with the Alamo, sitting around talking about what to place in this display. All these people mind you are higher than my pay grade, and someone mentioned my name as possibly having some items. I am just a small time collector doing my own thing chasing down guns and accessories.

We'll see if it happens.

Thanks,
L. Richardson

Very cool. I would love to see that, but we emigrated to Colorado in 1964 and the distance will keep me away. One of my ancestors was present in 1836 and I think was one of the Gonzales 32. Several on the other side of the family were at San Jacinto, so my family was deeply involved in those events. Would love to hear more.

Tell the Alamo to change the tag on tha Deringer, Phila, rifle from Derringer to Deringer. I've told them twice and it's still the same.

I love my state. But between it and Texas, if I had had a choice, I'd be there. Always felt a pull, never even been there. Maybe it's the Dr Pepper and Shiner Bock. I have a big Texas star hanging in my den my son brought me on his last trip there. I get some looks sometimes when I wear my Longhorns cap, also some folks from Texas around here that really like it. Remember the Alamo!
