Quigley Down Under

The main thing that struck me from that movie was when the avenging traveling samurai character was availing himself of a peasant's largess, and he saw the peasant's son looking at his rifle. The first thing he did was turn to the father to see if it was okay before talking to the child and letting him examine the weapon.

There was a massive disparity in force, power and status between the two men, but the warrior was yielding to the peasant's judgment and permission concerning his son.

We know Selleck is a hardcore gun guy, I always wondered if he had something to do with that bit.

I think this movie was out for ten years before I decided to see it.
Really glad I did and as a result became a blackpowder firearms lover and shooter. Took me much longer to acquire a Quigley rifle from Shiloh firearms in 45-110 cal. and have yet to shoot it. Enjoyed Crazy Cora and rest of cast. Marston made a great bad guy. I'm told this was not a Western, but I think it was and add the theme music and don't get much better.

After I finished watching the movie, I turned back to cable TV only to find that most of my channels were not available. Apparently, Spectrum is having issues in my area, at least that is what the recorded message said when I called them.

So, I decided to watch another movie I had on the DVR. It is The Magnificent Seven". Funny thing, when I was listening to the opening music score to the movie, it was very similar to the score from Quigley Down Under. Anybody else think that? I actually figured the same person had probably wrote both. When I googled it, they were done by two different perple. Check it out and see what you think.

I have completely worn out my first VHF tape and the second one is not going to make it too many more showings.

In one scene Marsden says he believes he was born in the wrong century. I don't know about that but Selleck looks like he may have been. He just looks like he was born to wear western clothes and a moustach. I still can't get used to him in a suit but he does look rather at home in shorts and one a them flowerdy Hi-warian shirts and flip flops.

I'd like to see a second movie that takes place after leaving Australia, with Quigley settled down in
the western US at a ranch with Crazy Cora and rustlers show up!

Let the powder smoke begin!

Then the last Injun raids occur and finally a gunfighter tries to get MQ to draw.

Add in a drunken Sheriff, a crusty second banana and one
of John Wayne's sons and you'd have Nervana!
