I just checked the USCCA map for states that have reciprocity with NM . According to that map . LA does not recognize NM carry permits either . Regards Paul

To quote Chrissy Hynde: "way to go Ohio!"

Ohio Honors Resident and Non-Resident Permits from these States:
Alabama, Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, N. Mariana Islands, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virgin Islands, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming
Ohio Honors All Resident and Non-Resident Permits from these States:
Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota

NM's politics are every bit as Byzantine as those of Chicago - in fact, theirs pre-dates and exceeds Chicagos (the Pueblo Indians taught politics to the Spanish who settled here starting in the 1500s). Coming from a place with a crazy menudo of politics, Gary, I know you understand and that yous isn't a request for understanding but merely a cri de coeur . . . :(

New Mexico has a bunch of strange and hard to understand bedfellows as far as the political climate is concerned. I'm thankful that we are in Arizona and chose to watch NM in our rear view mirror a long time ago. They were off and on again regarding reciprocity with Arizona for no apparent reasons.

It's a beautiful state with many good people, but, like I say, it has really strange policies and practices.

John

It really is not difficult to understand. In New Mexico everything is politics. Somewhere in between a state sport and open warfare, depending on which day of the week we might choose to discuss.

Don't get me wrong here; I genuinely love New Mexico.

Uh oh! I mentioned politics on the forum. From now on I'll try to confine myself to quick and easy recipes, maybe a little trivia now and then.

I have it on good authority that this was a result of not wanting Cajun Lawyers to visit our fair state.

All kidding aside, I thought that it was LA that first dropped reciprocity with NM, and we then followed. I obtained an AZ non-resident to go along with my NM CCW, and I am good from here to Florida now. GA also doesn't have reciprocity with NM, but AZ fixes that.

Sistema1927 , did you check GA reciprocity law for “ non resident permits “ ? I lived in Az for many yrs , had a resident permit . When I moved to Tx I had to change my status to non resident. When making trips to FLA I found that after I left Tx , no one would accept my AZ non resident permit . LA , Mississippi, Ga , Alabama nor Florida . I suggest you check it out before venturing out to any state . Maybe things have changed since I last checked. Regards Paul

Yep, see below:

Don't sweat the permit. You can carry a concealed, loaded firearm in NM in your car or in your business or domicile with no permit of any kind. Been that way since statehood.

A. Unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon consists of carrying a concealed loaded firearm or any other type of deadly weapon anywhere, except in the following cases:

(1) in the person's residence or on real property belonging to him as owner, lessee, tenant or licensee;

(2) in a private automobile or other private means of conveyance, for lawful protection of the person's or another's person or property;

(3) by a peace officer in accordance with the policies of his law enforcement agency who is certified pursuant to the Law Enforcement Training Act;

(4) by a peace officer in accordance with the policies of his law enforcement agency who is employed on a temporary basis by that agency and who has successfully completed a course of firearms instruction prescribed by the New Mexico law enforcement academy or provided by a certified firearms instructor who is employed on a permanent basis by a law enforcement agency;  or

(5) by a person in possession of a valid concealed handgun license issued to him by the department of public safety pursuant to the provisions of the Concealed Handgun Carry Act.

B. Nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent the carrying of any unloaded firearm.

C. Whoever commits unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon is guilty of a petty misdemeanor.

You have to watch that non-resident thing. I have a non-resident Florida permit, but there are a number of states that won't recognize it.
