No, not the Clint Eastwood movie. I was out to lunch with an old friend from upstate of me who I hadn't seen in about 45 years. He picked up the checks but I told him I would leave the tip. As something I've been known to do, I stood up a bunch of Golden Dollars on the table. That's 12 Golden Dollars I stood up on the table.

Sorry the picture is sideways. I can't seem to straighten it out.

Server will be confused. So will the clerk where they try to spend those dollars. But a generous tip. Good on you.

I will not pass a kids lemonade stand. I always pay more than the 25 cents a glass asked. I usually pay in un-circulated $2 bills or Eisenhower silver dollars. I stopped once and gave 2 little girls each an Eisenhower dollar. Seeing the confused look on their faces, they raced over to their mother sitting on the steps. She looked confused as well. The little girls returned and told me "my mamma says we need real money".

I used to eat breakfast at a certain diner . I had a big pile of Dollar coins and would always leave a couple along with the cash tip . Our server had young children and she said that they loved to get the coins for their banks .

I've had a number of servers and tradespeople tell me that they save the Golden Dollars for their children and grandchildren. One server told me that the Tooth Fairy brings Golden Dollars for her children. I'm known in a bunch of American Legion bars as the guy with the Golden Dollars in the Crown Royal bag. Hopefully they remember I gave them a good tip.

That is funny!! I’ll trade all the 1964 or earlier Eisenhower dollars for “real” dollar bills all day long.👍😎

What kind of gold dollars? Do they have any worth beyond face value?

The Sacawajea dollar coins that started being minted in 2000, the Presidential dollar coins that started being minted in 2007, and the state Innovation dollar coins that started being minted a few years ago. I refer to them as "Golden" dollars because the actual alloy is somewhat similar to brass but has the yellow color. The only Golden Dollars I know of having a value in excess of face value would be proof coins and mint mistakes.

Thanks for that explanation. I actually researched it online. I remembered hearing about the Sacawajea version. Presidential ones sounds neat too.

I Love me some Sacajawea Dollars.
I’m 90% sure that I got off a Southwest in Dallas with Glenna Goodacre the Artist who did the Sacajawea side of the coin.
I didn’t take the opportunity to speak to her and I have regretted it ever since. And I’m not a the type who has that many regrets.
Glenna passed in 2020.
RIP Glenna.

My wife and were out to dinner and charged the meal and tip. But when she returned with the paperwork, I told I had something else for her and said I appreciated the meal and the service and I wander her to have This, and place an older Sacajawa dollar. She squealed and said she keeps every on she get for her little boy!

Golddollar pays for whole meals, I use them as tips. Either way, the tellers at the bank love that we take them off their hands!

I’ll tip the normal 20% - 25% on my card but if she’s good I’ll also throw her a $20 bill or more so she doesn’t get taxed on it. To clarify, I’m not talking looks any more (darn it!), I mean good service. The dollar coin is a pretty good concept, and I bet they remember it next time and/or every time if you’re a regular.
