Walmart

I am simply amazed at all the WM blasters. I was just there this afternoon. Needed some paint. It was cheaper than Home Depot. Needed some medical prep stuff. It was cheaper than the drug store.

When I left the greeter smiled and said have a good day.

I can't hardly remember seeing people inappropriately dressed. Maybe it happens. If it does, maybe you better move to a better neighborhood.
Don't you know that it's fashionable to bash Walmart ? All the cool guys do it .

I don't go to Walmart very often, and if I do I drive to the "nice" one 20 miles away. The Walmart 3 miles from my house on a good day looks like it was just looted, and accounts for over 60% of our township PD's activity. The colony of "interesting" people now living year round in ramshackle campers in the parking lot adds to the ambience.

Retail theft at Walmart has become a career for some people. I've arrested individuals who have a been convicted of theft at over a dozen different Walmarts. Many of the people arrested for retail theft at our local Walmart are from Philly, which is 50 miles away from the store. There are organized retail theft rings that recruit junkies, drive them to Walmart, and give them a list of items to swipe. If they get caught the most they're looking at is probation, assuming they ever show up for trial.

I have never had anyone ask for my receipt. I suspect this has something to do with my appearance, or as friends and family like to say "looking like a cop".

If Walmart lost $1 million a year to shoplifting there would be no issue at all. In reality they lose about $3 billion annually to shoplifting thieves and we all pay for that with their higher prices. It only takes about 10 seconds to show someone your receipt, not sure why people get their panties in wad over it, especially if it will lower their cost to buy groceries.

I object because it is no different than the anti-gunners coming after the guns of the law-abiding, knowing they cannot stop the criminals. Search the bags of the law abiding while the thief rolls a TV out the door during the search.

In November 1999, a Deming mid-schooler, Araceli Tena, was mistakenly shot and killed by a 12 year-old classmate in a school corridor full of students. Nobody knew what was going on, but it was resolved without further blood. During the hectic 3 or 4 hours afterward as we were trying to account for all students and get them to the right parents, a Wal-Mart district guy from El Paso kept calling. When he finally got to talk to an assistant chief, he got permission to send (flown in from all over the country) a post school shooting trauma team, counselors, and a pocket full of cash for food for a community meeting that night. They as well picked up the (uninsured) girl's medical tab and funeral.

Wal Mart had no store in Deming at the time; the one condition for all the help? That NO ONE revealed the source of the assistance officially and that city officials discouraged gossip about it.

I shop at Wal Marts whenever in-country.

Karen is a confirmed Walmartaholic. I keep threatening to send her to group therapy meetings, if I could find one.

I have already had to put several Walmart visits into the itinerary for our forthcoming visit. And there will be a few stops of opportunity I dare say.

Here in Kiwiland theft is committed as soon as an item is removed from the display with the intention to steal it. No need to even get to the checkout.

I don't mind self checkout for a few i5ems, but anything that needs to go into a trolly goes through an operator.

I don't go to Wal-Mart anymore. Or any other place, except my local gun store.

If a store doesn't have online shopping, and a delivery service, I probably haven't been in it in years. Need something from Wal-Mart? I grab my phone and hit the app and order it. Need something from the grocery store? Grab my phone. When the person fills my order, they will text me if they have to make a substitution. Is this OK? Yes/No. Anything else you want instead? In a couple of hours someone pulls up and drops it off at my front door. The app lets me know they're coming, and tells me when they get here. The small fee they charge monthly, and the tip (not really manditory, but I've done that type work and know it's appreciated) are well worth it to not have to go to the store. Also cuts down on impulse buying, which may or may not be good, depending on how you look at I suppose.

CB...high tech, and lazy Bubba. :D

Walmart really isn't that cheap.

For the last couple years of my father's life, i did his grocery shopping for hime. He always insisted that I got the local snooty and known to be expensive store. I worked near a WalMart and wondered how much I'd save him by shoping there.

I took the receipt from my last shopping trip with me to Wally World and compared item for item. Brand name items where applicable. On a $150 grocery bill, I would have saved $5 and at the snooty store I got 30 cents off per gallon on gas.

Some things are loss leaders to get you into the store but otherwise for name brand things, not so much. My work pants at WalMart are $28, elsewhere $30.

Maybe a little off-topic, but anyway....

As y'all probably remember there was an unfortunate death in Minneapolis a few years ago. The city rioted and much agony followed.

In contrast, there was another shooting in Buffalo, NY at a local supermarket. The aftermath was quite different.

People from all over the community gathered in the parking lot to pray. With the store closed, local cab drivers offered to take local people to another store for free. Local businesses contributed much cash to the survivors. I can go on and on.

The riots in MN were publicized everywhere. Like the Walmart story, few outside of Buffalo knew how the ENTIRE community came together.

If a store doesn't have online shopping, and a delivery service,

I'm old fashioned, I want to look and touch what I'm buying. I do shop on line, mostly for specialty items that would be a pain to find locally. For example, I need a mainspring housing pin for a 1911. I could spend a day calling gun shops and not find one.

Buy shoes or trousers without trying them on? Never. Let someone else pick my produce? Also, never. Besides, going to the store and the bank gets me out of the house.

I've got one rule on the receipt flashing and it's come into play several times, if you didn't ask the person leaving in front of me you flat out ain't seeing mine...nope.

...and it might cost you more than $2 in gas to get to the Walmart rather than the close, snooty store. That's something most in the US don't consider because they still think gas is cheap enough to not be a consideration. When you are raised in the UK like me, the thought process is a little different.;)

I'll buy that, with a note that it might be worth the extra "petrol" to send a message - through lost business - to the closer store. Just a thought …

Snooty store, 1.5 miles. Walmart 2 miles. Super Walmart 4 miles.

I shop at Aldi and a non snooty local chain both about two miles from home. However, I'd drive ten miles to avoid Walmart today.

You can order on-line from WalMart just like ordering from Amazon, and that is everything WalMart carries, which is more than just what they have in their stores. Delivery is very fast, and prices are often the same or less than Amazon prices. About six months ago I bought a printer from WalMart on-line that was not in the local store, and it was delivered the next day. And cheaper than from anywhere else. Just go to their website and type in whatever it is you are looking for and it will pop up. Say you are looking for a printer like I was. Just type in printer, and everything they have will pop up. Just select and pay by CC.

The local Walmart neighborhood market hasn't checked my receipt since I checked my own receipt in the parking lot and came back to pay for a pack of paper plates I thought they had missed. Turns out they had gotten them, I just didn't see it on the receipt. The lady at the customer service desk was amazed someone would come back to pay for a $4 item.

I had some paper plates underneath a Big plastic container that I forgot about. Scanned and paid and when unloading found the paper plates. Took receipt back in walmart to customer service and told them. They looked at me like I was some alien but took my $$$.Pays to be honest.

Picture of the confused employees isn't loading.:)

I am not a WM fan for lots of reasons, but have shaped at one or two. I think the last time was while visiting MIL the last time, right at the start of the pandemic. A checker made an error on our stuff and did not deactivate the anti theft tag. We got stopped by a very nice young lady, we worked through the problem and went on our way. Shows just another person doing her job.
