Charles Middle School in El Paso, Texas, has since put new dress code on hold after backlash

"We are ... eliminating a look that has taken over on campus with students wearing black tops with black bottoms, which has become more associated with depression and mental health issues and/or criminality than with happy and healthy kids ready to learn," principal Nick DeSantis said in the letter sent to students' caretakers.

I never heard about depression and mental health issues and/or criminality being rampant among those wearing black Habits - Catholic Nuns.
 
Goth types and especially those 2 kids that shot up Columbine were into the all black type clothing.

So I’m not surprised a school is taking steps to make it go away.

...more rules and laws just due to some stupid perception. Like the ban on SUPPRESSORS, thumbhole stocks, etc.

Steve Jobs habitually wore all black. To him it was simplicity. No matching concerns. Whether he was a 'nice person' or not, you had to admire him for his entrepeneurship. Johnny Cash was the 'Man In Black'. Coco Chanel invented the 'little black dress' that worked well for Audrey Hepburn. I could go on.

Well if going to Catholic school for 9 years and experiencing the Kendo ability of the nuns with a pointer you might think just a little different.:D

Well, let's focus on clothing instead of student success. I read that the Charles Middle School 6-8 grade students are at least 39% proficient in math and 50% in reading.

A rating service gives CMS El Paso a B- grade for academics.:eek:

No Kids Left Behind seems to be another huge federal Dept. of Ed. failure. The bureaucracy becomes greater and the kids - not.
 
I liked wearing black shirts until I got got a white cat. After the third person said that they saw that I had a cat I kind of gave it up. Never felt the need to shoot up some school or was depressed while wearing black.
 
Black shirts ? i associate that with a political movement that was popular i Italy a century ago.
Now if a student showed up to school wearing a snap brim hat, a black shirt and a white tie and carrying a violin case I might be concerned.
