Best Barbecue in America comes from New York!

Lived in Rochester and ate Dinos a couple of times and it was pretty good. The best BBQ joint I have had was in Bristol, TN but I can't remember the name of the place but I think it took top honors in a best BBQ contest.

Dang right!

Best BBQ in the coutnry is from NY?

Who was judging? What were their qualifications?

Any of 'em ever eat in a good BBQ joint in the south? In Texas? (FWIW, some of the best I've ever had was at Rudy's, in Leon Springs, TX). In Kansas City? Hell, in the far west, where we don't brag about it, but we can cook purty good?

Those the same people who think the country stops at the Hudson River, or maybe in New Jersey somehwere?

Lived here all my life so just gotta say best Q in the world is from the triad area of N.C. specifically the Lexington, Thomasville, High Point area. Also if it's not pork it ain't real Q. oops just my 2 cents worth.

We know who NY voted for in November, so I reserve judgment on their judgment.

I hav eaten Barbeque in Mississippi, Lousiana, Tennessee, Florida, Illinois and NY.

Dinasour BBQ is not bad. It is spiced a little hot due to use of hot sauces but they offer beef, pork and chicken (though chicken is not BBQ IMHO).

There is one in Harlem NYC which is Frequented by former President Clinton supposedly.

Upstate NY has a surprising number of BBQ resturants open in the last 10 years. SOME are passable many not so, but the art is appearing in upstate NY because frankly people like the food and they have had it in their travels.

I give an ABC BBQ poll the same credence as their political polls... worth less than a warm bucket of spit.

Dinosaur BBQ may be the best... but I wouldn't believe it from ABC's polling anymore than the other cockeyed poll results that they report as news.

Guys, calm down now. Haven't eaten at the Dinosaur in Syracuse but have had BBQ at the one in Rochester. It is very good any is very close in taste to real southern BBQ. I have it in Georgia and Texas also, but I have to say that some of the best I ever tasted was in Oklahoma. Good stick to your ribs real southern BBQ ! Now I'm hungry.........Shoo

Smithfan--Rudy's is good. It's always worth the stop.

The best brisket I've had was in Shiner. This guy operates out of an old gas station, and is only open Thurs, Fri, & Sat IIRC. Grab some Q and head down to the Spoetzl Brewery for the tour and some samples!

Also good:
Abilene--Harold's, if he hasn't retired. Joe Allen's is good, but a solid #2 behind Harold.
Cabot, AR--The Mean Pig
West of Abilene on I-20--I can't remember where it is, but it's the only thing at that exit. I think it was called KC's.
There's also a pretty good place out the back gate at Ft Benning (Lawson AAF).

Absolute worst BBQ I've ever had was in Fayetteville, NC. I knew I was hosed when the waitress didn't know what a pulled pork sandwich was. Isn't that a Carolina staple? Isn't that like a place in Philly not knowing what a cheesesteak is? Unfortunately, I was with a group of people and they wanted to eat there.

The very best BBQ ever made could be served in NY on a silver platter by a nude super model and I wouldn't leave the South to eat it. Why travel 1500 miles when I could have the 2nd best BBQ ever made served by a very sweet Southern waitress in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

You're in Florida?

That's not "the South".

I live in the KC area and have eaten some very good BBQ here. The problem with a lot of Q joints is that they've gone main stream, i.e. expanded, modernized, etc. The best joints are the ones who have stayed original to their roots usually in the same 50-75 year old building. I've eaten at Arthur Bryants (where presidents and visiting dignitaries go) when it was just a one store, greasy spoon, no plastic gloves place. Beer was served in frozen mugs. The sauce is a weird gritty orange stuff that will stain forever, it's an acquired taste. Order was " a combo sand and a fry ". Some guy slapped a bunch of meat on two slices of white bread and slopped on sauce w/ a paint brush. Another guy grabbed a big handle full of real potato fries and wrapped them in newspaper. The burnt ends were free to grab with your fingers for tasting sample.

My brother has a way of telling a good BBQ shack from the outside, must have the owner's name on it (i.e. Ed's BBQ) and an unstacked pile of hickory out back.

Best BBQ I ever ate was at Massey's in El Dorado, AR. It was on the edge of "the neighborhood". No seating, just get a chopped beef or pork and eat in the car. Oh, and the Old Hickory in the same town was fabulous...

OBTW, BBQ sandwiches do not have sliced meat...

In Texas you can pay $10 for a plate of great ribs with fries. In NY you pay $50 for the same thing and get to wait 30 minutes before seating.

In Texas the beer is also colder

But the very best ribs, pork ribs are in Salina Kansas at a small place called Hickory Hut.

Good one.

Soooooooooo when I get tired of eating fresh seafood and fruit I go to South Carolina for BBQ. Also make a stop in Georgia for some peaches, they smell so good and I also love their accents.

ingmansinc,

You'll have to forgive me...the only two places in Florida I've been two are Orlando and Daytona.

I'm sure there's some real Southerners in Florida off the beaten path.

My Mother's family were Italian immigrants that came to New Orleans . From what I have heard , Sunday dinner at her Grandmother's house was unbelievable .
