Are you a new shooter as well as being a new owner? Sounds like classic over compensating to me. This can be especially true with very stiff triggers

With that many rounds the magazine notch for the slide stop could be worn out. Thatd be my guess.

with the slide closed and in battery, the magazine (if fully loaded) is going to be much harder to engage. Youre just going to have to live with it! Thats the sacrifice you make for a single stack that can hold 7-8 in one magazine.

I like to keep my safety procedure universal throughout my handguns. Not all of my guns have the peepholes or raised loaded indicators.

I press check any and every handgun every single time i hold one. I dont care if I know that its loaded/unloaded or sat on my bedside all night.

Have no worries, sir! I had the exact same concern as you and did some testing with snapcaps. loaded everything, chambered a cap and pulled the slide out of battery about half an inch. It goes right back into battery as you pull the trigger and all my qualms were relieved.

The rear will not work on your shield.

For a pistol like the shield, id want the quickest acquisition sights anyways. Its not meant to be a 50 yd "tack driver." good shooting, anyways!

Dont forget the 40's, also. Every 40 at my LGS had the gritty trigger.
