Got my 629 back today
I got my 629 back today from smith warranty repair.
I shot it and it's perfect! 6 rounds through the bull on a rifle target at 50 feet.
Approximately 2 1/2 weeks from RMA and shipping label to my front door.
I've got to say, I'm pleasantly surprised at the excellent...
Info from smith
Well.. 2 weeks later and I called customer service. They said they adjusted ( I assume tightened) the barrel and to expect to see it in the next too weeks.
I'll post again when I get it back and shoot it.
Thanks for all the good info. I have contacted Smith with my concerns and pics of the rear sight.
I shoot many guns with both fixed and adjustable sights every week and this one is the worst I've seen.
The barrel seems to be timed properly but I'll wait to hear from smith & wesson.
I'll post...
I just received my new 629-6. I love it.
I have been hooting for over 50 years and have been a professional gunsmith for many years.
I sighted my new 44 and had to move the rear blade all the way to the right to get it on target. At this setting I can basically make 1 hole.
I have fixed this on...
you can call the Smith custom shop and see if they can mill the front like the new 41s with the removable front blade. Only problem you couldn't return it to original.
I use a Lyman Ultrasonic for beass and gun cleaning. I do a pre cleaning with simple green to remove range dirt ( lead powder) and use the Lyman. I agree that it does not do anything for accuracy in the short term but long term the dirt will ware out even carbide dies and any dirt left in the...
Yours is later production and the parts should be readily available. Brownells or Midway USA will have the parts. Mine looks fairly straight foward to replace but as Tom said, Smith will do it for you they are really good about their high end guns.
I shot bullseye in the 60s and used a MKI ruger bull barrel. I just recently got a 41 and I love it. I've shot a few HS, I don't remember the models but they were exelant shooters. As for the problems with the 41s, I had a lot of feed and ejection problems but after a through cleaning I cant...
I've been enjoying my M41 for about a month now. I love it. Mine is late 80s-early 90s and has had a rough life so far. It shoots exelent but the finish is rough the grips are chipped and it had very minor surface rust. The rust looked like the previous owner just shot it and put it in a foam...
You want to make sure you drift the pin out from the CONCAVE side, and reinstall it from the convex side. remove the pin about 2/3 out and the fireing pin and spring will come out then remove the pin the rest of the way while putting pressure on the breach face to keep from losing the extractor...
Are you sure the barrel is drilled and tapped? that vintage may have an extendable front sight. Try to loosen the set screas and slide the front sight foward.
Hi Rawlins
I have a 1990 vintage M41 that I just bought. The breech face is showing similar ware. I know from the condition of the rest if the gun that it wasn't treated well but it shot very good and the price was right. I'm really curious to know what might have caused this. I hope someone on...
