What some clueful instructors carry as their defensive firearm

People ask me all the time what gun would be the best for defensive carry and what caliber is the best. It's easy What gun should you use to defend yourself? The one you're carrying! What caliber is best? Whatever caliber that gun you're carrying shoots!

    UPS Mail Innovations....

I avoid the surepost thing altogether by telling UPS to hold it at their facility for pickup. This is also convenient if you don't want your wife to know you ordered another 100 pounds of "bullets you don't need". The UPS facility is conveniently located between home and the office. That's...

    Ok, Scotch drinkers

Islay is where the good stuff is made. After I had a taste of the lowlands, I never wanted to go back to the highlands again. Lagavulin 16 is good most of the time. There are good years and not-so-good years, in my experience. Their distiller's reserve is not worth the extra bucks (also in my...

    Drop your weapon...

I am entertained by the cross section of the populace who carry a gun for self-defense, shoot paper in a range three or four times a year, and envision scenarios in which they will be Chuck Norris and stop a bank robbery or liquor store holdup. Killing someone is easy, but living with it...

Where do you stage your pistol in vehicle?

This thread would be quite informative to someone wanting to know the best places to look in a vehicle for a firearm, when they're in a hurry.

Got gun back, 2 thumbs down

My armorer's manual says "Mil-Spec" is 4.5 to 8.5 pounds. Also, "Mil-Spec" is synonymous with "Loosey Goosey", in my opinion. It is not a standard to strive for, nor would I think that "Mil-Spec" would have anything to do with a commercial plinking rifle in .22LR. Of course, maybe the French...

    Reloading bloopers

I have made mistakes before. My reloading process includes redundant checks, so I have never done something wrong at the reloading bench that went out to the range. I operate under the assumption that people are fallible, but the quality-assurance process cannot be. In the past when I have...

Guns In Vehicles: Don't Do It.

I'm in the "I don't care what other people do" camp. Nothing I can think of, interests me less than what other people like to do. I know what I like to do, and I do it. I'm going to bed. :)

    Thankful for a jam

That is strange that it separated. Both 9mm and .380 projectiles are the same diameter. Maybe the 9mm die didn't crimp it tight enough to keep it in? I would say that turned out to be a very good thing! I have never heard of that happening with factory ammunition. You should mail the...

    Silvertips, anyone?

I thought hollow points were only issued to MPs, and only since 2010. You must have been breaking some rules there, Bubba. :D

After meeting and talking with Jerry Miculek, I can tell you that guy is elite, but not an elitist.

    Rare 1923 DWM commercial Luger...

If you plan to shoot it, get a new firing pin and set the one with the matching last two digits of serial number aside. Firing pins on those tend to break, and it would be a shame for the numbers to not all match.
