    Mags

I'd keep an eye on Gunbroker, and use model 3913 (instead of 3914) when doing your search under the parts / clips & magazine subcategory. There are quite a few out there right now. http://www.gunbroker.com/

    Mod 3914 grips

I use a piece of bicycle tire tube. It's thin, so it doesn't add any bulk to the grip, it does add some grippiness, it doesn't interfere with anything, and it is easily installed and removed for cleaning, etc. One $3.50 tube from WalMart goes a long way.

    which one to carry?

It's really hard to beat a lightweight hammerless J-frame in .38+P for a carry piece. Model 442 or 642. Just about the perfect midpoint between power, size, weight, concealability, and convenience. Simple operation. Easy to make safe or make ready. Lots of grip choices and lots of holster...

SW 1911 New Short Greider Trigger

You might try a set of really thin grip panels to increase your finger reach; I've noticed that there are quite a few variations in thickness to choose from on the market. The stock black rubber ones that came on my "plain Jane" S&W 1911 are some of the thinnest I have found, and they are really...

    Thinking of buying a 2" 357.....need advice

I tried to like Taurus revolvers. I really did. My desire to entertain the idea, especially in a carry piece, ended when I picked up a brand new, lightweight, small framed one in a gun store and it jammed up solid. I mean, the cylinder would not rotate at all, and the trigger was stuck. All the...

    442 back to S&W for a second time :-(

Ditto that, and also check to make sure that the extractor rod isn't loosening up on you (if you can get the cylinder open again, that is...)

SW 1911 New Short Greider Trigger

I put that same trigger in two 1911's that I own, and agree completely with your findings. I had to do just a bit of fitting on both of mine, however. I prefer the shorter trigger on 1911's because the contact point on my index finger winds up being closer to the first joint, as opposed to the...

Holster lost in mail! What do I do?

About a year and a half ago, I ordered a holster online, and it was delivered via UPS. I couldn't absolutely prove it, but I'm pretty darned sure a neighbor stole it from my front door area. The UPS guys and gals in my area were all decent folks, and very professional. They usually left...

First time shooting my new 629-6 6 1/2" full lug

Welcome to the forum. dr.bear, and congrats on your 629. As far as the sight alignment, I wouldn't blame the gun or get too concerned yet. Now that you have your reloading dies, try making up some lower recoil rounds and shoot single action from a sandbag / rest. Work your way up and play with...

    908

I picked mine up recently for under $400, with one magazine, original box & papers, and an extra Hogue grip. It wasn't NIB, but it was 98%.

    Model 457 45 auto...Opinions

If that little click sound happens only during a long single action pull (trigger has returned all the way forward, and now has to go all the way back to fire), it might be due to the common problem of the trigger play spring being bent back a little too far. Mine had that issue, and it was...

    908/3913 safeties

It appears that they are. In a previous discussion about 3913 vs 908 safeties, member 586L-Frame posted this: Here is the thread: http://smith-wessonforum.com/e...891073243#7891073243 As far as ease of installation of the safety lever, it's not a big deal. I have a 3913 and a 908 and have...

Convince me to buy another pistol

Why not pick up a decent .45 1911, and a .22 LR top end? S&W makes an EXCELLENT 1911. I've got the Kimber .22 slide and barrel conversion kit on top of a 1911 bottom end that I built for it (in addition to other 1911's, of course. But I digress...). Shooting .22's though it is a lot of fun, and...

    Carrying full mag+1

I used to do the full mag +1, but I don't top off anymore for three reasons: 1. I don't like having to squeeze that mag in there so tightly. My 457 came with the plastic mag release tab, and I upgraded it to the metal one, but still...I'm not fond of that much extra pressure on the catch. My...

    Model 457 45 auto...Opinions

I really, really like my 457 as a practical SD gun. I've owned, and still own 1911's, and I do not find the recoil any more stout than a Commander. I have a perception that the top end (slide and barrel) may be a bit heavier on a 457, which may help absorb some of the recoil. Not to mention the...
