Last time I went to the range they noticed my extractor was getting worn and sent me to the gun shop to get it checked and replaced if necessary (which they did). The first thing the armorer asked me when I said I had a Smith was "where...
The brand new guns at Cabelas I suspect are over runs/returns from the NYPD contract. NYPD dumped the 5946 in 2014 so those build dates make sense. After they moved production from Springfield to Houlton quality took a nose dive. Apparently the Houlton guns are so bad the range staff beg people...
The 5946 for has not been authorized for new officers since 2014. They are not and have never been 5946TSWs. Standard markings, no rail. The 3914DAO and 3953TSW were formerly authorized off duty guns. They are now replaced by the M&P Shield. The 908 was never in the mix. All of our guns are...
My Remington 870 had a rough chamber. Some rounds would stick in the chamber and you really had to force the action to get them out. I used some 000 steel wool, a cleaning rod, a power drill and a lot of oil to polish it. Worked like a charm.
All three mags for my 5946 have been fully loaded continuously for 10 years now. They are only ever unloaded for but a few minutes after I shoot and get reloaded. They are fine.

Still keeping my 3914DAO though.
You are referring to the 3914DAO. Yes it was made for a big (very big) east coast PD. Yes it was done by the factory. It is second strike capable and the trigger feels very similar to that in the 5946, maybe just a little bit heavier. The product code on the box for mine is 103922. I got mine in...
