Nice 986! I bought the 5" model. Hated loading and extracting the moon clips; discovered the BMT tool. It does the job. Encouraged me to buy the 929. Would like to have a 986 like yours.
Since I mostly shoot paper targets on an indoor range, I've slowly moved almost exclusively to semi-auto; especially .22lr target pistols (seven at last count). And, I don't know why, except I'm more accurate with them. I sold my two home defense .357 Magnums; now using a Wilson Beretta 92G and...
Now that I'm old and grey/gray, I find shooting revolvers to be less fun than in the old days. Double action is hard on my arthritic hands and thumbing a hammer hurts my tender skin.
But, it doesn't keep me from owning and shooting a S&W PC 986 and a S&W PC 929.
But, back to the thread; I'd...
Both .45ACP and .357 Mag are too hard on my body these days. With arthritic hands at 78, I finally (recently) sold my guns of those calibers. I still keep a "Saturday nite special .22" (more than 50 years old) and a S&W 986 PC, along with a S&W 929. The 9mm round is a little easier on me...
The only rimfire pistols I dry fire are the Ruger's, Mark ii and Mark iii. The Ruger manual OKs it, if one makes sure the firing pin retaining pin is in place. If the retaining pin is out of position then the firing pin can damage the breech face.
A couple of years ago, I purchased a Hammerli...
Nice gun! I'm also old. And, like "sherco" I've shot some nasty loads; the worst was .44 magnum. The idea is to hit what you're shooting at (and nothing else), so I tend to go with any stock loads that produce minimum recoil. Heavier projectiles with stock powder load tend to minimize recoil...
A couple of years ago, I suggested my wife get a concealed carry permit, because I always have a gun in the cars, and didn't want her to have any problems because of the guns. I have a couple of revolvers in the house because she thought she preferred them to semiauto. I say "thought" because...
I have two of the PC M41's. One purchased two years ago, NIB via Gunbroker. The other was purchased two weeks ago from my LGS, NIB. The owners told me it just showed up from their distributor. I'm assuming S&W had a new production run. I was told by one of the S&W folks, about two years ago...
I'd have to go with the Model 41. My dealer contacted me a few days ago saying he had just received a new one from the distributor. S&W must have done a recent production run. I now own two of those beauties!
Wild! I like the grips that came with my PC Model 41. I think grips like those posted would probably to the job, providing they fit one's hand/s precisely.
Thanks for all the info. I learned a lot from these posts. Makes me think I should look into an older S&W (or a newer one?). I learned handgun shooting using S&W revolvers in the late 1940's, .38 and .32. Shot a few ex-military 1911 .45's during those years. Carried the 1911 and the S&W Combat...
