    Tip-ups?

Model 1 is .22 and the 3rd issue has fluted cylinder. Model 1 1/2 is .32rf and 2nd issue has fluted cylinder. Both have birdshead grip (round butt). Earlier models have square butt. glove meant that .22 model is smaller in dimension than the .32 model. Smaller frame, shorter cylinder. Otherwise...

    No. 2 cleanup

If we are doing amateur fixes and not minding doing it the professional way. Is there any negatives filling the cap with baking soda and the adding thin super glue on top of it? This method seems to fill the crack quite nicely. Also makes it less prone to crack more? Even better to use saw dust...

    No. 2 cleanup

Thanks for thorough answer. I had no luck finding PP gloves from google, but did find butyl ones. Found also some that claim to withstand acetone, but are made from nitrile and that is false advertising in my opinion. I never had any problems with different chemicals when working with bikes when...

    No. 2 cleanup

Seems butyl gloves are also an option. Quick look tells that you could get a pair of resistant gloves with reasonable price, like under $20. What about xylene as a cleaner/solvent, soaking metal parts in it instead of acetone to get all the hundreds of years of grime off? Usually next to...

    No. 2 cleanup

Acetone dissolves vinyl/latex gloves in a heartbeat. Also made a hole on my thicker rubber gloves. Wonder if there is acetone proof gloves around? I bet the acetone on bare skin is not good on the long run.

    Second Model .22

I've been trying to find a Model 1 for a while and this came up. Interesting story and nice engravings on the revolver frame and cylinder. But price may end up too steep for me. It's now $550 and estimates $700 to $900. Maybe just wait for a S&W Model 1? Flayderman's talked about the cases...

    Second Model .22

Actually found a whole chapter on Manhattan Firearms Mfg Co on Flayderman's Guide. Apparently the .22rf revolvers were direct and well made copies of the S&W Model 1. Flayderman's mentions the production was continued until halted by lawsuit. So I guess that was in 1862 by Rollin White/Smith &...

    Second Model .22

Hi! Found this one, made by Manhattan Firearms Mfg Co. First I thought that it was one of those Patent infringements that S&W sued and settled that those would be made and sold under S&W brand with stamping something like "Made for Smith & Wesson"? But this was a plain copy that was not sued...

    Whitneyville .32 RF revolver

Thanks for the posts. Well I guessed looking at the price range that they are not so rare as advertised in some of the sell ads. [emoji16] Anyways it is very interesting and caught my eye. My first instiction was before reading the text that it is a Model 1 1/2 2nd issue, looks like it. Birds...

    Whitneyville .32 RF revolver

Hey, Ran across this revolver and reason I'm asking here is because it looks like a S&W Model 1 1/2 2nd issue. So is it a copy? Frame is brass and barrel seems nickeled. A lower quality piece than what smith & wesson was? Not so durable as is it not steel? Also i see the barrel locking lug on...

    Model 1 1/2 jamming up

Might be stupid question, but I suppose heating it and then bending it is not the solution to the problem? [emoji16]
